Return of Breast Cancer in Right Breast, Removal and DIEP Flap Reconstruction,age 63 - Fairfax, VA

Upon learning of the return of my breast cancer and knowing that meant a mastectomy a decision had to be made about implants reconstruction. My first surgeon put me on touch with Dr. Ariel Rad. From the very first minute I met him I knew he was exactly the right person to help me with this decision and the ultimate reconstruction surgery. He immediately made me feel comfortable (how many Doctors step into office to apologize for running behind and tell you they will be with you in a few minutes?). From the get go he was awesome. Explaining the process, what steps would be taken, how it would work, surgical time, recovery time, etc. His staff sent me an information packet, set up convenient Saturday appointments. Dr. Rad himself called me personally a day or so after my appointment to ensure I understood everything. If I had any other questions and to once again assure me that he would take good care of me and make me "whole and perfect" again. Every step of the way he carefully explained what was going on what would be next. Day of surgery he was there again to explain the steps to me and my family, updating them when it was over 7 hours later. He was there afterwards in the hospital to check on me, even with a Sunday visit. I couldn't ask for a more caring wonderful surgeon. Not to mention his background and experience. The DIEP flap surgery was exactly right for me. Dr. Rad was able to rebuild a breast for me from my stomach, I got a tummy tuck in the process and some other much needed realignment. Amazing.
