Dr. Chris Hess was the third doctor I visited to...

Dr. Chris Hess was the third doctor I visited to discuss my trouble spots: stomach and flanks. The factors that distinguished him from the other doctors I met and why I selected him as my surgeon are as follows:

• Health History Form – Katie, the Office Manager, sent me the forms in advance, which allowed me the time to enter EVERYTHING about my health. To me, that was important as I didn’t need to contact Dr. Hess after our consultation to mention forgotten aspects of my health, which might impact the surgery.

• Office Visit – Dr. Hess and his medical assistant, Shelley, talked to me for the full hour. This might be the only time I see the doctor before the pre-operative appointment and I wanted to be comfortable with my choice and make sure we “clicked.” Dr. Hess is personable, knowledgeable, and humble, with a good sense of humor. All important factors to me. He listened to me and explained my options thoroughly.

• Body Exam – Dr. Hess was the only doctor (of the three I visited) who asked me to remove my clothing, except for bra and underwear, and put on a robe. For the other doctors, I lowered my jeans so they could see my stomach and flanks. Because Dr. Hess was able to see my full body, I could ask questions about what areas he would cover. And no, I did not need lipo on my bra overhang. And no, lipo would not address my stomach; I needed a tummy tuck. Which brings me to the next distinguishing factor.

• Knowledge – The other two doctors said I needed a tummy tuck, but I said, “No, I want lipo,” so they said I could have lipo. Dr. Hess said I needed a tummy tuck, and when I said, “No,” he explained why lipo would not work and why a tummy tuck would, demonstrating on my body and with before and after pictures. His explanation clinched it for me. (He did appear sorry that lipo was not an option, but said the effects of one single pregnancy and one twin pregnancy stretched out my muscles. (No wonder the sit ups are doing NOTHING.) Apparently I don’t have much fat in my stomach. The flanks are another issue!!)

• Competitive Pricing – The quote I received on my way out was competitive even though the other two doctors were doing lipo in two spots. I went home, confirmed my ride to the surgery center, and called Katie to schedule the appointment.

So a positive experience in all regards. I’m so grateful to have found Dr. Hess and to have him close-by is another factor in his already glowing favor!
