Insurance covered every bit of it for me, but I got it done back in 2003. I weighed 237 at 5'3" on surgery date. Got down to 122 at my lowest. Am now at 154 7 years later. It is a good tool but you need to work it in order to keep the weight off. I have seen others gain it back and statistically, patients do gain back about 60% of the lost weight. I am working a food plan now to take about 20lbs off, but that's so much better than facing the need to take off 100 or 200 lbs!!! Gastric bypass was one of the 5 best decisions I've ever made -- right up there with following Jesus, finding the right husband, and having great kids (so I guess it's like decision #4!!)
Great review?
My Doctor: name not provided
I would recommend him except he is now retired. I would find a good doctor with a LOT of experience. Do NOT use someone who does not come highly recommended by many other patients and who does not have good follow up plans and education for you!!
It sounds like you've really made a great decision there. You've done really well to get to where you are, I'm sure with much hard work and perseverance. What kind of food plan are you working at now? Do you still use protien shakes etc 7 years later?
thanks for sharing your great outcome!
