Dr. Markmann is a fantastic Doctor/Surgeon. During our consultations and pre-op, he was very professional and had a great attitude, and a very calm, laid-back nature about him which I really liked. The surgery went well, he answers phone calls immediately, and he was always very helpful with answering my questions.
I only have one issue, and this was post-surgery. When I showed up for my first post-op (I had breast augmentation), my breasts were sitting pretty high. And before I explain the post-op appointment situation, let me first say that after the surgery, I was wrapped up in some gauze kind of contraption with the pain/numbness pump stuck inside of me underneath this extremely tight wrapping. From the beginning, this wrapping was not performing the job of pushing my breasts down. From what I remember, looking in the mirror, my breasts were high and the gauze wrapping was not helping at all. I called him in the middle of the night (I still feel awful for that) because I was in excruciating pain. I had asked him what I could do about it, and he said that I should ask someone to should stick a finger in the sides of the gauze or something to relieve some of the tightness/pain. Well, this didn't work. Nor did the percocets combined with the valium I was prescribed. It was extremely uncomfortable to breathe and I could NOT get to sleep. I decided to cut small slits into the sides of the gauze so that I could finally get some relief. This wasn't optional, it was mandatory. The pain was absolutely unbearable. And I have a high tolerance for pain (I've got all kinds of tattoos and piercings, and plan to get more; pain doesn't scare me--but this was intolerable).
So he tells me to come in one day early, before my scheduled first post-op appointment. He looked at my breasts, and I told him what I had done *literally the night before* (slitting the small cuts on the bandage). Long story short, he insinuated that me cutting these slits somehow caused my breasts to sit so high. This made absolutely no sense to me, as I only did it the night before, and my breasts were already high for the entire weekend after the procedure. My gripe is that I should have gotten a compression strap immediately after the surgery if this was so important. And it may be the case that Dr. Markmann has dealt in the past with patients who do stupid things to jeopardize or ruin their results, and maybe he assumed that this was the case with me. It wasn't. I was constantly pulling up the gauze dressing because it wasn't sitting where it should have been (long before I cut slits into it due to the unbearable pain). Again, I really just wish I had a compression strap from the beginning if this was such an important thing. What upset me the most was that he made the statement that I may have to return to the O.R. Really? Because my breasts hadn't dropped in three days?! Look, I didn't graduate from any medical school, and I've got no memberships or certifications on any boards of plastic surgeons, but everything I've ever researched tells me that the breasts (when placed high in the chest) typically take weeks, and sometimes months to drop into their proper place. Returning to the O.R. is something that I cannot financially handle at this time, and something that my poor mother just cannot handle emotionally.
I almost feel bad for writing this review, but the point of the feedback here is just that Dr. Markmann should give his patients just a little bit of credit...me in particular...that I wouldn't sabotage my results by doing something stupid. That I did do just a little bit of research before I had my surgery. And not automatically assume that it was my fault (that my breasts were sitting too high) or that I did something wrong.
I will reiterate that Dr. Markmann is a *fantastic* surgeon, extremely talented, really nice guy...I like him! And my boobs look great (outside of the fact that they have yet to drop...but they will in time). If you want a surgeon that knows what they're doing, pick Dr. Markmann. He really is great. I simply did not have a good first post-op experience.
