Mountains to Molehills - East Grinstead, GB

For years I had suffered from large breasts (34FF) that were not in proportion with the rest of my frame (UK size 12/14; US size 8/10). I suffered emotionally as I felt out of proportion and felt that men just noticed my breasts and not me, and I could never find any clothes to fit me. More than that though I suffered physically, with back and neck strain, deep grooves in my shoulders from the constant pull of the bra straps, and a persistent rash under both breasts that no amount of ointment would cure. It was those physical symptoms that became the motivation in the end. Having got nowhere with my GP I discussed the issue with my gynaecologist who recommended Mr Paul Banwell. I approached my initial consultation with some trepidation, but felt a first step had to be taken in order for a decision to be made. On meeting Mr Banwell I felt instantly at ease, as his highly professional yet friendly manner inspired confidence immediately. We discussed the procedure in general and my case in particular, and I learned that a breast reduction is viewed as a change of life procedure rather than a "cosmetic procedure". We then discussed risks and benefits, and I went home to think about things. When I reviewed the points that had been discussed (they are sent out in a very comprehensive letter), it became clear to me that this procedure was now a distinct possibility. Still, it is not a decision one reaches overnight, so I thought about things for another couple of months, before going back for a second consultation to ask further questions. Those were answered as comprehensively as the first time and convinced me to go ahead with the procedure. Of course I suffered nerves on the day (who wouldn't ?!), but everything was made as easy as possible for me at the McIndoe Surgical Centre in East Grinstead. Mr Banwell saw me before the operation in order to draw on me as is required. He was very professional and reassuring, as was the anaesthetist, and the rest of the team. Before I new it, the procedure was done and I was awake again in my room. The pain was present but well controlled, and I had drains inserted in either breast which is what I was told to expect. The next morning Mr Banwell came to see me for an initial check, and by that afternoon I was out of bed and starting to move around. Things progressed well and after a further checkup by Mr Banwell I was released from hospital the next day. The drains had been removed and I was wearing a support bra and tapes across the incisions. Once home I felt better rapidly. I could shower (and pat the tapes dry with a hair dryer), and I was moving around but taking it easy. I was on antibiotics for a week but stopped the painkillers after about three days, bar the odd paracetamol. There was a dressing change after one week, and I went back yesterday, after two weeks, for a checkup with Mr Banwell, who was very happy with my progress. I am happy too, delighted in fact! I look so normal, my shoulder pain is gone, and I can't wait to go shopping for new clothes. I wish I had done it years ago - I can highly recommend Mr Banwell and his wonderful team!
