Liposuction: Stories

I have had liposuction twice. Once when I was 40 and just wanted a small amount (<1 lb) taken off my lower abdoman. It was traditional lipo with the larger suction and done in the doctor's office under valium drip. I was suprised at how painful it was for such a small amount - and the pain lasted months. However, it was successful and I had a good / smooth result - scars took some time to disappear (maybe a year or 2).

My second lipo was ultrasonic and done when I was 48 on my waist, abdoman, and love handles. The pain was reduced from the traditional lipo and the scars were minimal and healed immediately. There still is pain, bruising, and soreness but it either was not as strong or I knew what to expect.

I had the 2nd one done with rhinoplasty so took a week off from work. I did have to wear the tight 'girdle' for months (same both times). I was pleased with this one too, except that I have an area that got too scooped out so looks like a divot. Another plastic surgeon has told me this is only fixable by fat injections. (I think with lipo you should be careful about your expectations - doing it in the abdoman is easier because if you get some unevenness you can always wear a one piece swimsuit. I think the uneven look is more prevalent than you would think - doctors would not show those pictures as part of their portfolio).

As with all lipo - you can still gain weight back in that area! However you are more likely to put it on other areas faster.
