I was hesitant to get plastic surgery, and indeed...

I was hesitant to get plastic surgery, and indeed had put off getting my deviated septum fixed due to a previous doctor who suggested that was my goal. However, when I went to a good ENT, he explained it was medically necessary, and described the deviated septum surgery to me. Once I realized I was going to be put under anesthesia in a serious procedure either way, I took the weekend and thought seriously about my goals.
I decided to consult with his recommended plastic surgeon, Dr. Imola. He was very matter-of fact, and explained exactly what he would do, both to fix my deviation and for cosmetic purposes.
I was very concerned that I did not want to look "too" different. I am a performer, and altering my look significantly could impact my career. I showed him photos of what I did and didn't want (Jennifer Gray vs Bette Middler), and he cautioned me that what I wanted was a relatively minor change to a relatively large nose (he said it more nicely!).
He showed me photos of what he would recommend using software and based on my requests. I was pleased with the compromise at which we arrived.
Before the surgery, he again checked in to be sure that the relatively minor changes were what I wanted. They were.
The surgery was a success. It was definitely, 100% WORTH IT. I can breathe through my nose for the first time since 6th grade, and I also feel much more confident. It wasn't a fun recovery, but Dr. Imola's Clinical Director/Patient Coordinator, Lisa, was so helpful and responsive about all my questions. They also provided excellent scar control products, as well as anti-bruising crème as part of the cost. They had really good tips about preparing for the surgery and recovery. I was back at work in one week, but would recommend taking 10 days to recover if you can. I still had some significant bruising, and was unable to take the good painkillers during the day so I could drive.
My nose is straighter by far, the S-curve deviation is 90% corrected (which he had cautioned me would be the case- it is very nearly impossible to completely correct); the bump where I broke it is gone; and he reinforced the inside of my nostrils using my own cartilage, so my nostrils no longer collapse when I breathe, even with a sinus infection!
The scarring is very minimal. The cartilage removal site was within my hairline, so it is virtually undetectable. The scar from the surgery itself is under my nose, and really difficult to see already, even after 6 months. With makeup it is almost invisible.
The tip of my nose is slightly upwardly tilted, which I had not originally requested, but he had suggested in my consult. It is subtle, but makes my face and nose much more attractive.
Dr. Imola is very good at his job. He is precise and knows exactly what to suggest to get the result you want, and he was very good about honoring my request for a subtle job. Some friends noticed, but a lot asked me if I had lost weight or gotten a new haircut! Seriously!! If you are on the fence, don't wait 20 years like I did. Go for it.
