2 months post op!.... - Cincinnati, OH

I'm 45 years old and I've waited probably 30 years to have a nose job. I am 50% Italian and 50% Irish. I am 100% Italian in the nose! I decided to finally go and have a consultation because I've been noticing that my face is shrinking and my nose seems to be bigger as I've aged. I have looked at what seems like millions of photos online and I'm very confident in my surgeon that he will do a great job. I am a little concerned when I look at pictures of post op that the swelling could be really bad, my doctor warned me about the swelling, but I would really like to bypass that if I could. I want to thank all of you for your tips, I think that really helped me finally do this! So thank you and here goes....

I had my surgery yesterday morning. They say everything went well and my first day went good not too much pain or swelling. I kept ice on practically ever since the surgery. I had a lot of trouble sleeping ,mostly because of my extremely dry throat. I could not stop eating ice chips! This morning (day 2) I woke up to a lot more swelling and bruising. I have drainage from my nose still and I feel like the tip of my nose is huge. I know it's swelling but it's still scary. I go tomorrow morning to get the packing removed and I will be glad to get that out. I have only had to take extra strength Tylenol for pain which is good. I will try to post some pictures.

Here's most recent picture, kind of miserable.

Packing came out this morning it was a relief getting it out, finally being able to breath through my nose again is great. The packing came out 48 hours after my surgery and now 5 hours later this is the first that I actually have pain. My nose is very touchy and my face just hurts all over. I'm sure tomorrow will be better. The surgeon told me after 72 hours it will be better. I don't like looking in the mirror. Black eyes, puffy all over and my nose looks big. Hope all of you in the same place as me are doing good. Thanks for the support.

Today is post op day 3 or 72 hours. I'm feeling pretty good, I haven't had to take any Tylenol since yesterday. I have some discomfort but it's more when I sneeze (hate that) or I some times feel these little zingers (like a shooting pain that goes away). Swelling seems to be a little better. I think from every thing I've read we all could deal with the swelling and black and blue if our nose tips didn't look so huge. I really don't have a lot of energy, I did get up with the kids this morning and made their breakfast and got them ready for school. Then I cleaned the kitchen, my husband cooked dinner the night before and lets say he's a great cook but a horrible cleaner upper!! I've kept the ice on faithfully but now since it's been over 72 hours my doctor says the effects a ice are no longer helpful and moist heat would be better. I'll be trying that today. I hope all of you are doing well, thanks for the comments and tips. Have a good day.

Today is post op day 4. When I woke up this morning I actually felt kind of bad like I was trying to get a cold. I desperately wanted to blow my nose....hard. But I didn't just softly which is annoying. I cleaned up around the house and played Legos with my 8 year old for about a hour then I had to lay down. I slept for about 2 hours and then showered, I'm feeling better now. I am getting a little crabby too. It is beautiful outside, sunny and 60 degrees, I would love to go on a walk but I'm not comfortable being out yet. The swelling continues to be there but subsiding little by little. I have what seems like sores inside my nose, very painful little things. I going to go and try to find something to do....I'm not good at this, normally I never sit down until 10pm everyday. Ugh. Hope all of you are doing well.

Post op day 5! I'm excited for tonight my doctor wants me to shower and get my cast wet tonight so it will start loosening up and do the same thing early tomorrow morning before I go see him at 8:30. I will be glad to get the cast off tomorrow, but I am nervous. I might have to tell him to put it back on! I'm getting used to to swollen tip, I don't like it but everyday I do see a change, even if it has been very little. It will also be nice to try and get my skin back to some kind of normalcy. I feel like a teenager again, very oily. At 45 I don't normally have that issue. I'm posting another picture, I've done it everyday, so I can see the day to day progress. I will let you all know how tomorrow goes! Have a good day.

Hi, I just went and had my cast taken off. It was good advise to shower the night before and the morning of to get the cast off. It came off very easy and the Dr. was pleased. Taking out the stitches was doable but one or two or them were stubborn and that made me tear up. Looking in the mirror the first time is sort of surprising. A lot of swelling hid behind that cast!!! Oh my, it can only get better. Over all the nose is good, just large still. I know it's swelling, well that is what I keep telling myself. My doctor said there is nothing I can really do to speed up the reduction of swelling, he said it's just time. Okay so maybe I won't be going out today!!?? I did go to the movies yesterday, with the cast on. Since the cast was on I was allowed to wear sunglasses, so I did and it's cold out so I had a scarf on....pulled up extra high. It was good to get out. By the way the movie was fabulous!! Silver Lining Playbook! I going to take it easy today, I have had no pain to really speak of this entire process but every since the cast has been off I'm very aware of my nose. When I talk I can feel a vibration and it hurts and every once in awhile I get a shooting pain. I feel very exposed and with having 4 kids (3 boys still at home) I'm nervous to be around them. Our house is surrounded by Nerf guns!! Lord help me! Have a good day!

A couple of you had commented after seeing my cast off, thank you all very much. As requested here are some other pictures... I've got to say, I'm missing my cast. My flippin' nose is hurting today! Feels soo sensative and fragile!! The bridge (as well as tip) is so bruised and swollen, ay yay yay!! Really headachey too! Sorry to complain.... it's just a scary day..I'm worried that my nose is going to start caving in! hahah I know it won't but yikes! Also cannot begin to get the adhesive residue that is on my nose, that will just have to wear off! : )

Finally clicked on "yes" under Was it worth it! I am feeling better each day with swelling and bruising. I still have congestion that makes me feel like I have a cold. Light blowing and wiping is still challenging. Sores are still in my nose which is annoying but overall doing good. When out tonight with my daughter, granted it was dark out but I did go have dinner, that went well. Hope all is well with everyone. I will update when there has been a change.... : )

Hi! Today it is post op day 8. Things are getting better. My nose is now as sensative (painful) as it has been. Still a little black and blue..It is very cold in Ohio and when I go out I notice the cold weather really bothers my face. It gives me a headache and my nose throbs, hopefully the temp will increase some! The 19 degree weather is a killer right now. Not much to report I go and see the surgeon in the morning, his nurse forgot a suture inside my nose that should have been out with the others, but otherwise everything is okay..I'm getting very anxious for the swelling to go down. NOONE can notice I got my nose fixed which I know is good, but on the other hand, my nose is just as big minus the hump. Oh well nothing I can do ....patience. Hope all is well with everyone.

Hi,
Hope all of you are recovering well or getting ready for surgery, ect.. : ) I'm doing good. Still very sensitive especially my bridge area. When I was my face...nose, I feel like I want to scrub it with soap and a wash cloth because of the black heads but I can't apply any pressure. That kind of makes me nuts..I still have to take tylenol for slight headaches and bridge pain, sometimes it just flares up. I still have the swelling which I know will hang around for awhile. I went out with 4 cousins Friday night (all of which do not know I was having this done) none of them said anything....not a word....kind of funny, so either did I !! I was glad in a way. I didn't have to explain myself or anything (some are very conservative, it could have been ugly) so really it worked out for the best. That's all I've got! : )

It's been 1 month and a day since my surgery! This really is a process. I'm still swollen and tender and my nose feels hard and somewhat fake. The doctor says it's because it's still swollen. I'm glad to hear it's swollen because I think it's still big..I know it's better than it was, but I guess I had a greater expectation that it would be a smaller nose and it's really not, just 90% of my hump is gone. I'm still waiting and seeing.....

Hi today I'm just about at 5 weeks. I'm been so concerned about how big I think my nose looks and this morning I kind of had my ahh ha moment. I was washing my face and I was using a magnified mirror and I noticed a lot of black/white heads on my nose and some dry peelly skin so I thought I'm going to get all of this cleaned up. So gently I worked on my nose, all along I must have been resting one hand on my nose. When I was done working it over I noticed a huge divet in my nose where I had rested pressure! My nose had sunk in because there was so much swelling. Despite that it looked funny I was so happy to see how such retention there truly is! Once all of this swelling subsides I think I will be very happy with my nose!! I know this seems crazy but maybe it might be helpful to some of you!!

Hi, I thought I would just say I'm doing good. Still swollennn! and red in the bridge but overall it's coming along....

Hi, just thought I'd post a little something for others who had their surgery around when I did.... I'm doing well, I like my nose. I'm not going to lie I wish it was smaller..but my friends say my surgery was a good one because people don't notice. ?? I still have some swelling and I know this because my nose is still somewhat stiff...not like a "normal" nose feels, and the bridge of my nose is still sensitive and tender, not horrible, but noticeable. When it's cold and raining out, I notice my nose is even more tender..I guess it's like any other bone that was broken in our body. ?? I will post a picture in a couple months at my 6 months mark, maybe I will have all positives to say. But don't get me wrong, I'm happy I went through the surgery! Hope all of you are doing well. Take care.

i like the way your surgeon did to your nose look. He didnt make it too small and it looks so original. This is exactly what i want done to my nose. It matches perfectly on your face. What is your surgeon's name?

Thanks for dropping in to say hello Lisa. Seems like our noses change the most in the first few weeks, but the remainder is snail pace or slower. We'll get there! My tip still feels stiff & I do miss being able to wipe & squeeze it normally with a tissue when it feels I need to. All the best and I look forward to seeing some pics from you at 6 months.

I also feel the same about my nose; I think it looks a little too wide after surgery. I had spreader grafts put in after the dorsal reduction.

Thanks for the update..I feel about the same as you..wishing mine was smaller. Our surgeons did us a favor by not making it too small. Too many bad things can happen when they do that. Your profile looks great. Hang in there. :)

I so relate to your review. I am one month this week and am hoping that it's still swollen and a bunch of other nit picky things. Try Origins clay mask for the black heads. Isn't is SO bizarre when people close to you don't notice? It's frustrating and reassuring at the same time! Your progress looks great btw!

I'm 14 and had my 4th nose surgery 4 months ago, it was plastic surgery. Due to a car wreck that crushed my whole nose completely in to my skull, I had to have clay like stuff put in it for a fake bone. I have another one in June. I hated the plastic surgery so much, I had the packing in for 6 weeks (worst part) and bruises for 3 months alllll over! Wouldn't recommend it if I didn't have to have it... It's been 4 months now and I still feel gross, I couldn't eat and woke up with a dry throat for the longest time due to breathing out of my mouth. Yuck.

Hi Lisa! It is great to hear from you. I am one month today and my tip feels like a golf ball at the end of my nose! My bridge is perfect and I don't think I have swelling at all there. My surgeon has me massaging the tip to help move the fluid that can't escape due to open rhino. Are you doing anything? Mind you, I can't see it helping yet. Take care.

Hi, Well right when I read what you said I started messaging my tip! I just feel like there is very little difference in the way my nose is and maybe it's because I've gotten on the web site and I see such changes with others that it gets me a little discouraged. I'm not sure. I hope that it will still change, there has to be swelling yet especially in the tip area because of the way it feels, very hard and unnatural. Thanks for your advise I'm going to look at your site now, have you posted lately any pictures?? Take care : )

You are welcome. I hope massaging helps you. Gently start from the tip then stroke up and out towards the cheek. There are some good videos on YouTube showing lymphatic drainage techniques. I have been out shopping for a couple of hours and my nose feels achy and swollen along one side. It is a crazy thing this healing journey.....two steps forward, one step back. I am pleased you are feeling encouraged & not so alone. Some on here have only a tiny amount of work done and therefore fair better. It seems age plays a part too. Anyway, you look gorgeous and I look forward to watching your progress.

You look fantastic! I think that's a good thing that your cousins didn't notice or say anything; it just means your new nose looks so natural and suitable for your face :) It really does!

Not much news is probably a good thing. Stay warm and I hope the swelling subsides soon. My nose feels very wooden and like it belongs to someone else.

Honestly, you look great! And don't worry, the swelling will continue to go down and I'm sure your concerns will go away :)
