I have always had an issue with my nose, in particular my profile. As my friends and family have been saying, "you dont need it!". My response is, of course I dont need it but I want to do it for myself. After explaining that everyone has come on board to support me.

I will update better pictures as the surgery date comes closer.

You are gorgeous, and will be a knock-out after your surgery. January will be here before you know it. Hang in there!

I went for my second consult last week and have decided to go with Dr. Shah. He seemed very busy this time of year but he still gave me the time I needed to walk through what he wanted to do to my nose. He wants to get rid of the bump and refine and lift the tip from being so droopy. What really helped with this consultation was to hear him speak about the 2D versus 3D imaging in the morph picture. I could not tell a a large difference in the frontal morph but he walked me through how in 3D it will be different. That really made me feel more comfortable. I had planned on getting it done mid-December but due to the season he was practically booked up. So I opted for mid January and have booked my surgery. I have been super excited but now that its actually happening I am starting to get nervous. Happy thoughts for the countdown! Any adivse from anyone would be appreciated :)
I have also seen some of Dr. Shah's work, including revisions, and he seems to be extremely talented. Good luck to you - the last month dragged for me, but maybe with the holidays you'll be too busy to think too much about it and it will quickly for you!

I dunno, I dont want to scare you but I wouldnt feel right if I didnt tell you this first... I have heard bad reviews and things about this doctor!! just be aware!

Thanks for the warning. Can you be more specific please? I have read a couple reviews from people who have had revisions from a bad rhinoplasty who were not pleased but not with regular rhinoplasty. This site has many positive reviews for him but if you've read something somewhere else please pass it along.

My surgery is less than a month away and I am getting excited and nervous for first time. It helps to see everyone's progress on the site but the closer it gets the more often my loved ones keep asking me if I am really going through with it. There is no turning back now but I wish I had more support. A couple of my friends are excited for me but my boyfriend and family are anti nose job. I'll keep everyone posted closer to the surgery. Any tips anyone has for pre-opt or post-op care would be appreciated. Thanks!
You are already so beautiful! I bet your outcome will be fantastic!

All the best preparing. I'll be a day ahead of you, but my nose requires a bit more work than yours. It's going to be well worth it for you.

A week away from today I'll be having my surgery and I am getting more nervous by the day. Each morning I wake up with a little anxiety about changing my nose... after all I have made it the butt of many of my jokes and it is my fathers nose who I love dearly.

The first thing my doctor asked me in my initial consultation was how long I have wanted to do this and my answer was over 10 years. So I know I am making the right choice its just hard to come to terms that it's actually happening after fascinating about it for so long. Thank you all for sharing your stories/progress they have all helped me!

I added the morphed image of my profile today.

So surgery was this morning I've been sleeping all...

So surgery was this morning I've been sleeping all day but wanted to touch base with everyone while I can. The morning starred off well I was very excited driving down to surgery. When I got there I filled out some paperwork and then nurse Joyce took me back to change and take by vitals. Once that was done I was waiting in my gown reading a magazine. I saw Dr. Shah come in and then I started to get a little nervous, he came over and went over the large images of my nose one more time. After 10 minutes later I heard we're ready and I was taken into the surgery room. I remember looking around and that was it. When I woke up Joyce was over me asking if I was in pain. Which I was! She gave me a pain pill and some applesauce. I did not throw up at all today but in recovery my nose was SO cold. I was able to sleep the majority of the day but have kept up on the pain meds. Dr.Shah told me sister that my nose was more crocked than he thought so the surgery took longer than 2 hrs. Trying to stay positive that its going to look amazing. Thanks for all the support everyone!
I can tell you this from experience. If a surgeon is taking more time to get your nose done that is a good sign. That means he is taking his time and making sure he is doing all the right things to make your nose look as close to perfect as he can. Be glad that's what he did and not hurry up and try to get you out of the OR so that he can get to another client. I would rather have a surgeon take another 3 hours and be happy with my results vs. a surgeon get me out of the surgery room in time and be unhappy. I think you will be happy with your results. Please keep me posted as I am considering going back to this doctor to consult again. I have seen him before but now I might need his 2nd opinion on my primary surgery.

Will do! Thank you for your response.

Dude, that is EXACTLY what Dr. Shah told my bf after my surgery. He said that my nose was more crooked than he thought and my surgery ended up taking 3 hours. Hmmm, weird. I wonder why we don't get X-rays pre-op to look at the nasal bones and structure. Anyway, I just thought that was unusual. I wonder what the deal with that is, unless we both did actually have crooked noses, more so than expected...? Anyway, good luck with your healing process. I had to pay 900 extra. They will most likely call you tomorrow about that, if they have not already. Dr. Shah also built up the very top of my nose, like he did with yours on your photo imaging, that is something to get used to, but in the end I think i like it. Anyway, I appreciate your posts, I am following your progress since we went to the same Doc. Good Luck!!

Day 2 has been better than day 1 so far. I slept pretty well last night given I was sitting up, I woke up every few hours but it wasn't a big deal. My nose was a bit achy this morning so I took a pain pill and am doing much better. The hardest part has been cleaning the stitches yesterday when I did it my nose was still bleeding and it almost made me pass out. Today there was a bunch of dry blood, I tried to get what I could off without poking too much. No bruises and mild swelling so far. Does that hit more on day 3?

I consulted with Dr Shah recently and I really liked him. I'm happy to hear everything is going well and I'll keep reading as you update :)

I have kept my drip pad on just for security reasons today because it drips occasionally. I think you could take it off whenever you are feeling comfortable. You can always pop it back on it you need too.

Day 3... very swollen today! Its hard for me to even look at myself because it makes me uncomfortable. Woke up and had to take my pain meds right away and have been taking 2 every 4 hours since yesterday. Talked to the doctors office today and they said that today or tomorrow ill be the worst and then I should start seeing the swelling go down. Lets hope! Sleeping has been interesting because I wake up every couple hours worried that I'm not elevated enough.
It can take a week to feel better so do not worry. I was lucky if I could sleep half hour at a time without getting up and running to the bathroom. I was drinking so much due to dry throat that it put me in the bathroom every 10-15 minutes. I also had a lot of swelling which was horrible. It took over a week for it to look somewhat decent. Give it some time its part of the process. You should start seeing swelling going down by the time you have to take your splint off.

Hey ! Looking good so far, love that profile, even with the cast on! Can't wait to watch your progress :)

Today is Day 4 and I woke feeling a little better but still swollen pretty much ecery where and the bruises are a yellowish so hopefully that's the turning point that they'll be going away soon. I have been in pain but my pain meds have been working although I need to call for more as I'm almost out. Not sure if I have a low tolerance or what. More icing and resting on the agenda today.

Thankfully on day 5... getting really sick of not sleeping. All I want to do is roll on my side by I can't so I wake up every couple hours in discomfort and back pain. I think from being so tired its making me feel worse than I actually am. My face swelling has started to go down a little bit but my nose is more swollen and hard to breath out of. I can't wait to feel better and be able to wash my hair.

Finally! I am starting to feel normal again. I...

Finally! I am starting to feel normal again. I was able to sleep last night and that seemed to help a lot. I still woke up in discomfort and with a headache so I took pain meds. The bruises under my eyes are almost bright yellow and I can tell my swelling has started to go down. I'm so excited to finally be not the other side of recovery. On a different note I feel so gross! I have been able to bathe but not wash my hair! Any tips on how to wash my car without getting my face wet? I am really clumsy and totally see myself getting it wet on accident if I shower.

Cast off in 2 days and feel like i don't want it off... how can my nose be heeled after a week. Its like a safely blanket I think and I'm afraid to let it go.

Since I was able to sleep last night I'm wide...

Since I was able to sleep last night I'm wide awake now. Today is the first day I actually felt like myself again and not like I just had surgery and counting the hours till I would feel better. I left the house for a few hours to meet a friend which was nice but I was ready to rest by the time I got home. The one thing that hasn't changed is the longer I stand the more drainage happens. To be specific, it's like my nose fills up slowly with clearish mucus (sorry to he graphic). Practically the entire time I was out I had a Kleenex up to my nose because I felt like my nose was dripping. How long does that usually last?

Cast off on Tuesday... so only a couple more days! So happy to be feeling better and getting excited to see my nose :)

One tip for people getting surgery.. keep in mind the added cost involved... Meds, supplies for before and after surgery, blood test, parking cost for appointments, ect. With all that and surgery going over a half hour my cost ended up being almost $1,000 more than I anticipated.
Hey, I showered 2x already since my surgery Tuesday, I bring in a tiny wash cloth and put it at my eyebrows and let it cover around my nose and wash my hair with one hand. It works very well
Reply
Thanks for the tip, it worked perfect! I feel a lot better with clean hair :)

Your bones are pretty much healed after two weeks and you need that cast off so that the swelling can shift from your nose to the rest of your face and eventually disappear. I thought just like you and even asked the surgeon if I should keep that cast on for a little longer due to all that swelling and he said no because its so swollen we want it off and stiches off so that everything can just fall into places. He was right as soon as that cast was off things were just falling into places. So get that thing off girl! :) Washing hair hmmm... Well I did it in the shower pointing down and sort of leaning back with my hair without making the cast wet. I did a hell of a job and not a drop on the cast but I have experience in that. When I broke my nose the doc put tapes over my bridge and told me not to get it wet so I have practice. ;) But really just try to lean your head back in the shower and wash it that way. If you have those shower heads that you can pull out with a long cord that would be even more helpful. I don't have it but I thought about buying it when I was in a cast. Glad you are feeling better though. I am sure you cannot wait to see what your nose looks like under that cast.

Cast came off today which didn't hurt. It was more uncomfortable when the stitches came out and the cast felt like pressure but it was all over within a few minutes. Dr. Shah was in a hurry today so after that the nurse took me through the instruction for taping at night and I was all done. My first reaction when i saw my new nose was very happy even though Dr. Shah said I was extremely swollen still. I can't wait to see the swelling go down... But I already love what my profile will looks like. Ill post some pics later.

Thanks all for the support! It really helped me through the recovery :)
I had an open because he had to shave the hump, refined my tip and brought up the droopy tip. Feel free to message me with any questions.

How does your scar look? Do you only have one on the collumela? My doc did the same stuff but closed rhino. I am not sure which is better but really didn't want the scar under my nose. However I am sure its all about what the surgeon feels comfortable with your particular nose.

Scar looks good so far! Must be the preference of the surgeon. Ill post a pic of my scar tomorrow so you can see it at this point of the healing phase.

11 Days post of and I am really feeling like...

11 Days post of and I am really feeling like myselft again. The tip is still tender to the touch but much bettter than yesterday when the entire nose was very tender and sore. As for the swelling its still VERY SWOLLEN but I know it will look great in a few months. I dont love my nose yet but I really like it and know it can only get better from her on out. My skin is as others described; a bit oily yet dry and flaky at the same time.

For anyone about to get surgery just keep in mind that you are having surgery which is tramatic to your body and there is recovery time which differs for everybody. My biggest mistake was thinking I would be up and about in a few days because so many other people on the site had that experience. It took me six day before I could get out of bed and even on the 6th day it was only an hour out of the house before I was exhausted with a horrible headache and needed to get back to bed to rest.

Overall, I am feeling confident that I made the right choice :)
I'm so happy you had a good experience carabea, and I love the look of your nose. It's so nice already and I can imagine it will be fabulous when the swelling goes down. I think Dr. Shah is a very talented man, and you're a lucky lady!

You look INCREDIBLE! Both your profile and frontal views are gorgeous, and I'm really surprised you're only 11 days post-op because your swelling looks sooo minimal

Post of day 13 (last post was not day 11 only day 8 sorry for the typo). I'm feeling so good! My nose is no longer sore and tender to the touch. The tip is still numb and my nose is still draining a bit which is difficult because I can't blow my nose but overall that's the worst of it now. Its still swollen but I see it going down a wee-bit each day. Everyone loves it even though my family and friends were all against the surgery. I don't think many people would notice a difference from the front but my profile is different and I love it! Can't wait to see how it improves down the line.

Ill update photos soon...

For everyone in the recovery phase it's gets easier after day 3-4 and after the cast comes off you'll feel like yourself again :)

Hi All! I am 17 days post op and doing well. I still am very swollen especially the tip, I'm not able to completely breath out of my nose yet and the tenderness has diminished significantly. I'm paciently waiting for the swelling to go down... Can't wait to see the change from 3 months from now. Another side effect is that my skin is getting back to normal but my face has broken out.

Please don't estimate the email me if you have any questions.
Wow you look beautiful!! I just had a consultation with doctor shah and I was wondering how's your breathing after the surgery? And are the scars gone from your open surgery.

So I'm pretty much at the one month mark so I'd thought I'd update everyone on my status. I don't feel like I've progressed much since my last post but I'm adding some pics anyway. I'm still swollen as expected, I thought I would be breathing regularly out of my nose my now but I'm not. I'm still mainly breathing out of my mouth during the night. The doctor has me taping every night to help with the swelling so hopefully that is helping! The tip is still numb and tender.

Overall, I'm very happy, paciently waiting for the final product :). Most people haven't even noticed which somewhat disappoints me but at the same time I've heard that's a good thing. My family and close friends all love it though.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi All! Looking for a little advise... did anyone have the experience that the swelling can cause your nose to look slightly curved towards the tip? I'm pretty sure its the swelling going down at different staged on my nose especially since he changed my tip completely but I thought I'd ask around to see if anyone had a similar experience. I didn't noticed it until yesterday. I'll try and post some recent pics tomorrow with my camera so they are more clear.

I'm post op 34 days.

Thank you!
You look gorgeous! And actually reminding me a little of Julie Benz! Very natural looking, but you can tell there's still a little swelling.Hope you're liking it too, all the best

Your nose has definitely shown improvement, but it still looks pretty swollen. I have had what feels like the loooooooongest time recovering from swelling, but Dr. Shah has been very honest about it and very helpful with it. I had surgery with him almost 2 years ago. Be as patient as possible. It is hard because some people seem to have no swelling even just a few weeks past surgery, but some people (like me) take months and months. Hopefully you will start to see major changes soon. Keep taking weekly pictures because it may help you track your progress. Hang in there!
Reply
PS - my tip had uneven swelling that made it look crooked for a long time. Like I said, I think I have had a somewhat abnormal experience with the swelling, so don't be concerned, but overall, the nose doesn't reduce in swelling evenly. Some parts will reduce more quickly than others and it might make the nose look asymmetrical for a while, even if it really isn't.

Hi All, I wanted to write a quick update. I am...

Hi All,

I wanted to write a quick update. I am officially 2 months post up and still loving my nose even though its still swollen. I saw Dr. Shah a few weeks ago for my month check up and he said I am still swollen but on track so he did not give me the shot (which I kind of wanted), he told me to continue tapping at night. Dr. Shah is a great doctor and I would highly recommend him but you do get the feeling of being rushed during some of the visits. I literally saw him for less than 3 minutes on my last visit. My 2nd consultation before surgery he spent a lot of time with me willing to answer any questions I had. But the other visits are very short, I wanted to put that out incase anyone had a similar experience.

Now back to my nose, when I do not tape at night I notice my nose is way more swollen in the morning. I have not limited my salt intake and have gone out drinking a couple times and do not notice a huge change when I do. My breathing in the last week has greatly improved! I also do not obsess about my nose, I don't spend extra time examining it because I realized when I was doing that it upset me if I noticed one side more swollen, ect. And it was wasted energy since it's not even close to the final product.

If anyone would like to see updated photos let me know and I'll take a couple.
Based on your pictures, your swelling has gone down considerably! :)
Reply
I love that you wrote that you no longer waste time or energy obsessing about your nose. Hope when the time comes I can do that as well. It's probably a lot healthier >.< You're looking amazing!! Very natural!
Reply
Dr. Shah is sometimes rushed. I have had appointments like that, too. If he feels your swelling is at a common level right now, he probably won't do any injections. I didn't start getting any injections until I think I was about 6-7 months out from surgery. Everyone is different, though. When is your next appointment with him? About the nose taping, yes, the taping helps a lot when you do it at night! Are you still taking pictures of your nose, even if you don't share them here? This will help you a lot because there is probably some improvement each month, but sometimes it is hard to see.

Thank you, and yes- its all me who notices the swelling ;) I felt comfortable to go out in public after the cast removal (7 days) but i did get tired quickly. 5 Months Post Op

Hello,

I thought I'd put up a quick pic and update you. Last month I went and saw Dr. Shah and he put an injection into the tip of my noise which I was happy about. About a week after I noticed the tip was finally getting somewhat refined. It's now been a few weeks and my tip looks about the same and tonight I noticed one side feels like there is a little bump in it. Could just be swollen from something so I decided to tape it tonight (I stopped taping right after the 3 month mark). Overall I am very happy! Still cannot wait to see it when the swelling is totally gone.

Message me if you have any questions.
I really love your new profile! I have a question, I had my surgery 10 days ago and yestersay I noticed there's a bump on the bridge, but it wasn't there two days ago, is that normal? Will it dissapear? Thanks!

6 months post op

Hi All,

Hope everyone is doing well! I saw Dr. Shah last week for my 6 month post op and he said I still am 20% swollen. He opted out of giving me an injection because he wants it to go down naturally and with it being summer we tend to be more swollen. I am definately very happy with my results and can breath out of my nose 100% now. But I am super excited to see the tip more refined :)

All my friends have come on board with how much they love my results though most people have no idea I had surgery unless I show them a before and after picture.

Message me with any questions.

Love your new nose!! It's the type of nose that people show to their surgeons, perfect shape and natural

Dr. Shah really is an artist :) I wish there were more reviews with pictures! Yours is one of like, five or so. Soon I will be added to the list of reviews with pictures. It just seems he doesn't have very many compared to some surgeons - and being one of the best, if not THE best in the mideastern part of the states, it just seems odd. I would have gone to Grigoryants in California, as his work is also good, and he has a TON of positive reviews (WITH PICTURES!). And hey, I'd LOVE to sit on a beach prior to my surgery, lol, but the guy is WAY overpriced. So I'm okay with going to Chicago instead to an equally awesome surgeon. I just have to pass up the beach (and look past the fact that he has less reviews)! I'm glad Shah does Skype consults for his patients not in the immediate area. It really is convenient :) I think you were so beautiful before, but your face is in much more harmony now, and you look more sophisticated than you did before. Supermodel material :)

Chicago Facial Plastic Surgeon

I narrowed my search down to a couple doctors in the area. I had a referral for each as well as performed my own research. After my second consultation I decided on Dr. Shah, he was very warm and seems like a perfectionist. After the second consult I understood more about what his plan of action was for my nose and decided he was the doctor for me. My surgery is less than a month away and I am getting nervous/excited.
