Anything's Better Than a 34J! - Charlotte, NC

UPDATED FROM alex16006

Hey, sorry it's been over a week since an update!...

WORTH IT
Hey, sorry it's been over a week since an update! I've been busy with the Easter holiday and such. I've posted two more pictures, both from yesterday. Today they actually look a little better - every day gets better and better! The bruising is barely noticeable anymore, even less than the pics taken yesterday. I'll take some more pics this week.

So I went to the PS again on Thursday (March 28), and he took out the sutures and any stitches that were sticking out and it didn't really hurt at all. Thankfully he said I don't have to use the tape anymore! He also told me to start wearing bras with underwire to help in the shaping while the swelling is going down. Soooo, my grandma took me shopping and I got 2 bras from Victoria's Secret! (I've never been able to shop there before!) Unfortunately I'm bigger than I wanted - I'm a 36DD. Hopefully they will still go down a little bit.

Anyway, if anyone has any questions please feel free to ask! :)

How are things going now? Any updates?
Sorry, I just updated! I've been meaning to for a few days!
hehe thanks! You are healing really well and they look amazing!! Please remember that Victoria secret runs small (I think it is for the women who havd the opposite problems that we are used to having) They looks so good it's hard to believe that they are not implants :) You give me hope. I wish I lived in your area, I would totally go to your dr just based on your picture results. Im still waiting for insurance to cover, I no need to get a letter from my primary care dr. so Im getting a lil discouraged, I just want the insurance to cover it already so I can get the ball rolling. One question for you, are people you work with or friends and family asking if youve lost weight or anything or just that you look different? My chest is large and noticeable and Im worried about what to say to people if/when I get this done and go back to work. Thanks!!
Thank you! I'm so happy with my results. Even if they are a little bigger than I wanted its still SO much more comfortable than before. And keep trying with the insurance - I went through hell trying to get mine approved, but it finally paid off. Don't give up!! Just do EVERYTHING they tell you. And some people have noticed, but mainly just my close friends. I've had a few people tell me I look like I've lost weight, but I honestly don't think I look that much skinnier. I'll be 5 weeks on friday, so I'm planning to start working out this week and next to lose weight! I've been wanting to forever but its been hard to in the past (as you probably know). But don't worry about what other will say. If anything they'll be happy for you and say that you look happier and healthier! You'll naturally stand up straighter and look "better" overall. So don't worry! If you don't mind me asking, what size are you and what do you wanna be?
Thanks I will keep it up, I made an appt with my pc dr. to get it moving. I wear a 36gg and I would like to go down to a light 36DD, Im 30 and still plan on having kids, I like having bigger boobs but I dont want them to get out of control again when I get pregnant the next few years. I get monthly massages which help, and it's so funny to hear everyone else having neck problems and shoulder problems since I have them too but I dont really complain with anyone else about them except my drs. and my mom lol
You are gonna feel so much better when you have it done! I'm only 22 and still plan on having kids some day, and that's a concern of mine too is my boobs getting bigger again. I hope they don't! But good luck to you and keep me updated about insurance! I hope it works out soon!
What insurance did you have?
looking great!!!! so glad the irritation is better now. dont get too many bras yet. u will change in shape and im telling u at 3 months bras will feel different as ur boobies will be soft and mold to them better. go for cheapy ones for now then after 3 months start getting the better ones. the ones i bought before 3 months i dont like now. its ironic!! lol good luck and happy healing alex!
Thanks!! Yeah I don't plan on getting any more for a few months...I was gonna go for the cheap ones but my grandma insisted on a nice one so I wasn't gonna argue! Haha. But that's good to know that they will keep changing...I'd like for the shape to round out a bit more. But yours look great too! I can't wait to be healed all the way!
VS bras run at least a cup too small. They look great. I notice on the pre-op markings there are a bunch red lines. Is that the new method where they remove skin for better shape and nipple placement?
I think the red lines mark the peduncle that has the blood supply to the nipple that gets rotated up to the new position. All doctors may do it differently though!
girl you look fabulous even this far out you still look great !!! your PS was fantastic!!! so excited for you !!!
oh i just read that you are a 36 dd i wonder why peoples band size changes ..i have noticed that alot.. some of the things i read on here people stay swollen for awhile!! you might still be swollen and will continue to go down ..it is such a shame you dont like ..you look fabulous!!!! FABULOUS!! i can only hope mine look that great!!
Thank you so much! I'm so happy with the results. And I do expect swelling to still go down some! But even if they stay this size it's ok because they feel so much better and because they're lifted, I can't feel the pull anymore. :)
serious??!! i am at the desk right now typing and the pull is ..well you know...a drag!!! i am so over all this .and stoked beyond words ..i am glad you are happy i would hope so they look phenomenal !!

Hey guys! I'm starting this kind of late - I was 3...

Hey guys! I'm starting this kind of late - I was 3 weeks post-op yesterday and just now decided that I'd like to share my experience and put up some pics for anyone out there thinking about the same procedure. So far its been the best experience of my life! The pain in very minimal. The second week was probably the worst for pain. I was actually up and out of the house the day after surgery, and then every day since then! I have very minimal bruising, but the swelling is evident. The first week, before I really noticed the swelling, I tried on an old C-cup bra from when I was in middle school and it pretty much fit! Now I fit pretty well into a DD cup, but they're still really swollen. I hope that the swelling goes down soon enough and I don't end up any bigger than a D! (I was aiming for a C, but that's okay).

For anyone wondering about insurance covering this surgery, let me just tell you that it took a while for them to come through for me. (By a while, I mean about 6 months, which is actually a lot less time than some people, but it felt like forever!). I went into Wilmington Plastic Surgery in WIlmington, NC for my consultation in August. I had all of my documentation from YEARS of doctor appointment for headaches, neck and back pain, and multiple other things faxed into the PS office before my appointment. I also went and got sized at a professional bra shop. I thought I was a DDD (which is the same as a F cup), but it turns out I was a 34J. Ahh! That's so big! But I found out about 2 months later that my insurance denied me, and I had to put in an appeal. Unfortunately, they denied my appeal. I can't actually remember if it took one or two more appeals, but all I know is that I got a letter in the mail on January 4 saying I was approved! I was so happy.

I scheduled my surgery for over my spring break (since I'm in school at UNC-Wilmington), and my mom was going to come to Wilmington to take care of me while I heal. Well, then I hit another wall. She didn't think she'd be able to take that week off of work to come help me, so I contacted my insurance company and asked if they would approve the surgery if I switched doctors. They said they would, so I found Dr. Harper at Charlotte Plastic Surgery. THEN - ugh - I got a call back from insurance saying that they WOULDN'T approve the surgery through another doctor. Thankfully, Dr. Harper is awesome and called them back and convinced them to cover it for me. And that was that!

My surgery was scheduled for March 1, 2013 at 7:30am. I had to be at the hospital at 5:00am. Both of my parents came with me and stayed with me the whole time. My surgery took 4 hours, and I felt so great when I woke up. (Those pain meds are AWESOME!).

And, thankfully, it turned out that my mom WAS able to take that week off after all, so she got to stay at home with me all week! I actually felt so good the next day that I decided I wanted to go to my younger sisters gymnastic competition with my family. The only problems I encountered was feeling really dizzy and kind-of drunk off of the pain meds. It was extremely exhausting to be out, but I'm so glad I didn't have to miss her competition. (She won first in every event!)

Anyway, the following Friday, which was exactly 1 week post-op, I had my post-op appointment in Charlotte. My mom drove me to the appointment, and I had the white tape removed for the first time. The black sutures were taken out, except the ones at the bottom t-zones, which were too tight for them to take out. Unfortunately, they're still in and are itching me and bothering me quite a bit! I have my next post-op appointment this coming Thursday, so I can't wait for them to take them out at the appointment! At 1 week post-op, I was instructed to change my paper tape twice a day and shower twice a day. At first, I was following that routine pretty well, but the tape really started to irritate my skin. That may have contributed to the second week being the most painful. As of now, I'm still supposed to be changing my paper tape twice per day, but I've kind-of been winging it and changing it once per day, and today I actually haven't had tape on at all (but it's been my lazy day in the house, so I didn't actually go out without tape on). Anyway, the pictures I posted definitely show how red and irritated my skin has become due to the tape. It sucks!

And I was also instructed to buy scar cream and start to use it. I bought Mederma and used it the first day (1 week post op), but it kind of burned. I figured that it burned because my incisions weren't completely closed up yet, and the instructions on the tube say to not use it on open wounds. So I decided to use Neosporin for a few days, then read online that Polysporin is recommended more often. I bought some polysporin and have been using it ever since (except today, since I'm trying to let them air out).

I have blood flow to my nipples, but don't have a lot of sensation at all in my left nipple. My right nipple, on the other hand - oh. my. gosh. It's so sensitive and hurts so bad! I also read online that those feelings should go away with time and sensation should return to normal in both sides. Anyone else have this problem?

Well, I guess that's all for now! If anyone has any questions, please feel free to ask! I know that when I was planning for the surgery these blogs helped me when I was nervous, so I'm totally open for answering any questions that you may have. :)

You look amazing!!!! I hope they do such a great job on me!
You look awesome!
Congrats you look great
congrats!! Im glad you had your parents help, it just makes life so much easier! You look great, thank you for sharing. Im married but my mom is going to take off of work after my surgery to help too, shes very good at taking care of me, hehe, my husband is also amazing, but sometimes you just need your mom! Im waiting for the insurance to approve. How did the dr. decide on the size you would try to end up? What was the deal witht he insurance company covering it? did they want you to do anything in particular? lose weight or anything? thanks! and congrats again!
Good for you for trying to get it done! Best thing I've ever done. My doctor asked me what size I wanted to be, and I told him I wanted to be a C cup. He said that he could most likely do that for me, but because they were so big and uneven they may end up a D, which they are now I think. Also, for insurance, I didn't have 6 weeks of physical therapy for my neck and back pain, so the first time they denied me that's what I had to do. The second time they denied me it was simply that I didn't give proper documentation (so they said) from the physical therapist and my primary care, so both of those docs wrote a note for me and that covered it! Also, BCBS waited until the beginning of the year to approve me, and I think that was because they wanted to wait for my policy to start over again so I'd have to meet my deductible, which luckily I did. Sneaky insurance! And my BMI wasn't technically in the overweight category, so I didn't have to lose weight! But if you have BCBS you can go online and google search "BCBS breast reduction" and you should be able to find their guidelines for covering the surgery. I'm not sure about other insurance companies, so I hope I helped!! If you have any more questions please feel free to ask! :)

Wow you look fantastic!!  You now have the perfect and perky chest.  I see you are sporting the beautiful green bruising:)  I remember this so well!
