It is Worth It ... So Far ... but We'll See ... - Cape Town, South Africa

26 Years of age. Pigmentation problems, redness, pitted skin, large pores. People have to be so careful when getting the Fraxel Restore treatment done. Factors and most important points to consider:

1) Who is doing your treatment for you ? Only let a Dermatologist touch your face. You only have one face,

2) What skin type are you ? If you have dark skin / or dark eyes and dark hair ... first do a test patch. I am white (Caucasian), but have dark brown eyes and dark hair. I am at higher risk of hyperpigmentation than a fair skinned person. If no hyperpigmentation occurs with the test patch (after 4 weeks), proceed with 1st treatment on forehead only. Do test patch under fringe or on the side of your face. Thereafter, do the entire face. Well, this is the way I would / plan to do it ...

3) Wear sunblock !!! A HIGH factor sunblock. Wear it at all times. In the house and outside the house. Dodge the sun at all times. Fraxel Restore for texture, wrinkles etc. Fraxel Thulium for pigmentation. Thulium laser requires longer recovery time and skin actually goes very dark brown before it peels off.

Do research on the Internet ! Phone different clinics. Don't settle for specials. The Fraxel Restore does work. Don't know too much about Thulium ... don't want to comment too much on that ...

So far, I'm happy ...

Hi Cape,

Welcome to the Fraxel community. This review is fantastic these are good tips for the community to know. Did you have any pain or downtime from your procedure? How long did it take for you to heal? We would love to see pictures if you are comfortable sharing. Please keep us updated.

Thanks so much for your review,

There is pain during the procedure. It does hurt, but I could take it. I wouldn't recommend this procedure to anyone who is older than 35 ... I would then rather suggest Fraxel Repair. However, I believe Fraxel Restore is safer for people with dark eyes and dark hair. I'm all clued up on the risks of PIHP (pigmentation after laser treatment). If you have lots of money to spend and are over the age of 35, you'll definitely need at least 5 to 6 Fraxel Restore treatments to see a difference. Not really worth it then I don't think ... Rather then get the Repair. I am also now going to do Juvederm under my eyes for tear troughs. I found an awesome doctor in Newlands, Cape Town who does this. He is quite cheap. Seems like a perfectionist. I'm doing my forehead on 5 May for the Fraxel Restore. Excited and nervous. The test patch became itchy after a few days ... then little white pimples appeared ... perhaps that was from my very rich and active (+ expensive) moisturizer. I did not pop them ... just left them to go away on their own ... I have been like a vampire when it comes to keeping out of the sun ... get a 100 factor sunblock ... you actually get sunblocks specifically to put on after laser treatments. I'll share more of my experience after 5 May. Please be reminded that this is my experience with my Dermatologist. Every doctor / clinic / Dermatologist is different.
