Recovering

$10,000
Finally getting around to updating my surgery progress! Sorry for the extremely long post!

Day of surgery: Woke up excited and surprisingly wasn’t as nervous as I thought I would be. The staff was really amazing and made me feel well taken care of through the whole process. I basically walked into the OR and within probably five minutes was completely out cold and sleeping (hopefully not snoring!) Next thing I knew I was waking up in the recovery room and waiting for my husband to come see me. I remember the nurse moving my bed sheet down so that I could see my chest and my first thought was that they were so small! Which I don’t think so now and I’m happy they aren’t any bigger! The rest of the day was spent recovering in our hotel room with my husband taking great care of me and making sure I was comfortable. It was really hard for me to walk around and the whole night I felt sore and nauseous. I managed to get down a Starbucks mocha frap (very nutritional I know!) and broth from my Tim Horton’s soup which tasted amazing since I was so hungry.

Day 1 post-op: The worst day of my recovery so far. My first mistake of the day was thinking that I could have a couple sips of a Tim’s Ice Cap, which ended up with my husband running to fetch a garbage can and rubbing my back as I vomited. Yuck. Then after that, brushed my teeth, washed my face, got dressed, and it was out the door for my post-op check up. Since I’m from out of province I scheduled my appointment early so that we could drive back home as soon as possible. This was my second mistake. Right after my appointment as I got seated in the vehicle, I vomited again! Luckily we had an empty Tim’s cup and it provided some entertainment for the guy sitting across from us in the parking lot! After this we finally made it back to the hotel where I just laid in bed trying to rest and actually got a couple hours of sleep and started to feel better for awhile after that. We had planned to drive home the next day but since I had such a rough day my husband went and asked if there was room to stay another night at the hotel, but they were all filled up for the weekend.

Day 2 post-op: Husband got everything packed up and placed in the vehicle when they front staff informed him that there was a mix up and that someone was supposed to call us the night before letting us know they had a cancellation and that we could stay longer…haha. We decided that since I was feeling pretty well that day, it would probably be the best time to hit the road. The six hour drive actually went well and I had no problems with nausea during the car ride. Good thing for Gravol!

The rest of my week consisted of pain, nausea, lack of sleep, and trying to study for a final exam that was scheduled for 8 days after surgery. I do not recommend booking a surgery a week before an exam because no matter how dedicated to your studies you are, opening a book is not going to happen! The night before my exam I hardly got any sleep and while writing it I couldn’t get comfortable and was shifting around my chair the whole time! Lucky for me I was out of the exam after a 1.5 hrs instead of 3 hrs, jury is still out on my mark though.

A couple days ago is when I started to have a mini breakdown and was regretting the surgery due to the pain, nausea, lack of sleep, and not being able to do the little things without help. My left armpit feels like its being pinched and is very sore going down my arm. It’s been like this since the day of the surgery and everyone that I have talked to said this is normal but I haven’t talked to the surgeon yet about it. The pinching does go away the more I move and stretch the arm out but it’s not a fun process! Last night was the first night I feel like I actually got some sleep. The little things like driving to the corner store really tucker me out so I do need to take frequent rests.

Putting all the negative stuff aside, I do love the outcome, and the more they drop the better they look! Getting excited to go out and get a new bra, so that I don’t have to wear this surgical bra all the time!

3 More Days!

Only 3 days until my surgery and I am getting so excited!!! I’m trying to study for an exam I have on August 9th but that’s clearly not happening right now!

This week I’m finishing up my last few days of clinical at the hospital and was thankful when my instructor gave me the day off before my surgery since I’m driving down to Calgary. I also had the chance to watch an abdominal surgery last week which helped to calm my nerves a bit, as weird as that may sound!

Now I’m just working on getting everything in order to make my life easier when I return home. My husband and I just ordered a king size bed last month and it’s supposed to be here on the 30th, fingers crossed! It would be so nice to have the extra space to sleep after my surgery, so I’m really hoping it’s here on time!

Hey miss how are you doing? Hanging out for an update! xx
I'm so horrible at updating my page!!! I'm doing good overall, just really wanting to get back to my normal self again and be able to do all the normal things that I've taken for granted in the past! I will put an update up soon, I'm currently typing it up on my word document!

Getting Closer!

Wow, I can’t believe that my surgery is only 10 days away! I’m getting so excited and at the same time cannot believe that I’m actually doing this!

After my consultation and looking at the pictures my husband took on his phone of what the sizers look like, I had second thoughts about the size I picked (400cc) and thought I should go bigger. I contacted the office and the surgeon called me back to discuss the implants. He explained that because one of my breasts is constricted, he felt that going larger than the 400cc would not be a good idea and would increase the chances of needing to have a second surgery. He said that years down the road if I want to go larger after my skin has had a chance to stretch out, then that would be an option. After he explained the complications to me, I was 100% satisfied staying with the 400cc and knowing that after the surgery if I feel that they could have been bigger, I know that this was the biggest size I could safely do.

One aspect that I’m a little nervous about is that I have two rib pieces that go up to my natural breast crease that will have to be cut through for the implants to go in. The surgeon marked where he would be making the incision and it’s just a small line of my tattoos which will end up on the bottom of my breast. He said that he will do his best to make sure that the tattoo stays intact as much as possible and that it won’t be noticeable unless you are looking from under the breast.

Since my surgery date is coming up soon I spent this past weekend cleaning up the yard and house so that next weekend there will only be a minimal amount of work to do so that everything is in order for when I get back from Calgary. I’ve been trying to get ahead in my studies, but of course I’ve been procrastinating so I have to get my butt in gear this week so that I’m not a huge stress ball after my surgery. I have a final exam to write 8 days after my surgery so I’m really hoping to start studying this weekend since I’m not sure how much studying I will be able to do during my recovery.
