I am 65 years old. Pre-cancer lesions were found in both breast with MRI. Due to family history of breast cancer decided to have bilateral mastectomy with Lattisimus muscle flap reconstruction. You will receive lots of documentation to read that will help you understand every procedure. I had the surgery in January with expanders and periodic fill-ups. I had 4 drains and that was the worse part of the whole experience. The drains came out over the next few weeks. Once they were out you will begin to feel much better. I did sleep in a recliner for awhile as that was more comfortable for me than the bed. I was so glad to get the expanders out in May and had permanent implants put in which was a very easy surgery. The breasts feel very normal and soft. In September I will have the final surgery to 'fix' the nipple area and do the finishing touches on my back where the muscles came out. So in 9 months I am totally reconstructed and totally breast cancer free! I will recommend this practice to all my family and friends.
