My breasts were average size (36C), but with age...

My breasts were average size (36C), but with age they started to go south at different speed. Besides, both my mum and granny ended up with huge post-menopausal breasts. I was not looking forward to the same happening to me. After having had a blepharoplasty on upper eyelids, I decided I found a good surgeon and went ahead with breast reduction and lift. This happened 4 years ago and I am posting this only now for reference and because I discovered this site only recently.

The surgery took place on Feb. 4 and I had to spend one night at the hospital. Pain was minimal and surgery went well. The following day getting up was quite hard and I did not feel well at all. My husband filled in the discharge papers for me as I could not stand up and I barely made it home. I felt nauseous and dizzy for a couple of days but then I started to recover.

After 2 weeks the bandages were removed, but my breasts were still pretty sore and swollen. To my horror, they still looked very asymmetrical (see Feb. 18 photo). My surgeon told me that the "settling" period was at least 6 months and I should not expect to look "good" before that.

After almost a month it was clear that my scars were going to be a problem. The right breast was scarring horribly bad. My surgeon suggested a laser treatment to remove the bad scar tissue. On March 16, there was still no improvement and the breasts looked really horrible, with the nipples sticking out at odd angles.

I decided to go ahead with the laser to remove the scars. I had to pay for that over U$500 which I found annoying, but it was necessary. The laser was fast and painless and removed most of the ugly scar tissue. On April 20, the scars looked better, the breasts not so much.

After 3 months from the surgery I was happy about the reduction, but my breasts still looked pretty ugly and not "normal" at all. I had to do a medical check up at work and the female doctor who saw me had a disgusted look on her face. Not professional, but I guess she thought I was a fool who wasted money out of sheer vanity.

I had doubts about my decision, but I also knew that the breasts were still going to settle and "grow" with menopause and I was determined not to end up with huge drooping [RS bleep] like my female relatives.

Fast forward 4 years and I am 100% happy with my decision. It took a while before my breasts started to look "normal" again, but now they do. I now wear a 34B and I find it a very good size. I would have preferred something eve smaller, but I guess it is good enough.

Even if I had a six months of doubts and minor regret after the surgery, I just waited and hoped for the breast to "settle" properly, like my surgeon told me they would do. It took longer than I thought because of the reduction, otherwise, if I had done only the lift the recovery period would have been shorter.

Anyway, The only reason I post this is to support anybody in doubt. I would definitely do it again and I am very happy with the result.

My surgeon was a lady who retired shortly after (at the end of 2011). She was professional but very detached and not very supportive. However, she was honest and followed me during the recovery. I had not post-surgery infection or problems and the bad scarring was due to the quality of my skin.
