. I got my period today..HELP! Has anyone else had their period during a tt surgery? Is this a problem? Do you have to wear a pad? During the surgery, are you normally naked? Just wondering, because I am trying to figure out how I am going to keep a pad on! thanks!

I had my TT and all went great! Today is day 6 and feeling great. There is a lot of swelling, but as far as pain....much better than I expected. I walk around a lot. I was able to put a load of laundry in yesterday and I really feel awesome! One question though........as far as my belly button (the new one!) *What am I supposed to do with it? It has gauze over it and yellow "mesh"? There were no instructions from the hospital on what to do, besides change gauze. I was just wondering today if I was supposed to clean it or if the mesh stuff will fall off. I go to my post op on Monday, but was curious as to if anyone on here knew! Thanks

Hi, I had a tummy tuck and breast reduction exactly 2 weeks ago. Like you I too started my period the day before my surgery and I freaked out. Don't worry, everything will be okay. However, since you have to be completely undressed a pad won't work so you'll have to use a tampon. Please keep us updated and if you feel comfortable sharing before and after pictures, we'd love to see them.Good Luck tommorow. I'll be thinking of you. :)

I started my period during surgery and leaked all over everything (we discovered it as they put me in the wheelchair)! So embarrassing, but it'll be ok. I've read around here that some doctors don't want you using a tampon during the procedure, so mention it to your PS before the surgery in case they want you to take it out and put pads underneath you. Good luck tomorrow!

I started mine thr night before surgery for my TT. They had me take my tampon out, I know I had a cathider in during thr surgery. I was able to use tampons following thr procedure. You'll be fine, it's worth it!

Hi, I had my tt on July 16. I started my period the day before. My PS asked me to wear a tampon. My period wasn't supposed to start until next week. (I think it was my nerves that brought my little friend early:) The doctors are used to it. He asked me to stand up to mark me up. Well I had a little leak on the chair. How embarassing! He just kept on talkin and marking telling me not to worry about it. They see it all the time. But I asked him to be excused so I could get it together. I changed everything and proceeded with my surgery. I am not sure if you are staying overnight. I did and the nurses were awesome. They were very helpful with this situation. Good luck!

How awesome that we have ladies who will share these details!!! Thank you everyone. I'm pretty sure that doctors who are used to performing surgeries (and dealing with drains, etc.) aren't going to be fazed by a little menstruation. Try to keep that in mind. And good luck!

I am having a tt on July 29th. I was suppose to have my period on the 20th. I did get it a little early yeah! I asked the RN about it at my pre op she said not to wear a tampon. She said that it is normal for women to get it right before the surgery regardless if it your time or not. I guess it has to do with nerves. As someone said earlier it happens all the time.

That's a great question what happens with the belly button how do we take care of it. I was wondering about that also. I am not having my tt till august 31.

The hospital staff are used to that kind of thing so no worries!
