Not Worth It
Spent: $50 in Wisconsin

I had a microdermabrasion done about a year ago

pros: None.

Cons: Broken blood vessels all over cheeks and nose and chin. Redness all over that wasnt there before. Breakouts. Not rosacea, just damage all over. Had nice skin before doing this and now it is ruined and i have to spend a lot of money on laser treatments to try and fix damage done. Not to mention the emotional damage and loss of self esteem.

Full disclosure: I am a certified trainer in Microdermabrasion. I am horrified at the stories I am reading on this post. Microdermabrasion is a mechanical exfoliation that needs to be performed by a fully trained aesthetician or doctor. All of the bad micro stories have a common theme which is either there was active acne, couperose (red, broken spider veins) or an underlying redness to the skin prior to the service. It is truly unfortunate that some medical facilities jump into combining peels, enzymes and microdermabrasion on a first visit, first treatment basis. Yes, it is called a lunchtime peel but precautions need to be taken regardless. Sometimes less is more and no one should talk you into doing an aggressive service without having you fill out paperwork and giving you a full consultation. In the wrong hands, microdermabrasion can be done improperly and cause problems; in competent hands, it can give you fresh, vibrant and smooth skin so choose wisely and don't be talked into more than you need.

Well, im still dealing with all the problems from hte microdermabrasion. Still all red. I have had 6 IPL treatments which has helped with most of the veins in my cheeks and some of the all over redness, but i am still very red and breaking out. Im allergic to all the antibiotics they give you for acne and now that i have this redness problem i cant use any products on my face to help the acne. Microdermabrasion was a horrible decision for me and i regret it so much. Totally lost all my self esteem and dont even want to leave the house anymore. I refuse to give up though. I need to fix this. I will continue the IPL's until i stop seeing results. Thanks for the reply
