Eyelid Surgery: Stories

This patient came to me several years ago with serious eyelid deformities related to a prior cosmetic surgery performed by a different surgeon. She had searched diligently for a plastic surgeon to help her – but no one would take her case. I was touched by her plight and truly made every effort to help her. She still had challenges after the two surgeries I performed. I then consulted with a colleague who focuses on complex revision cases. He was confident that if he added an additional procedure to the work I completed, he could correct the problem and I arranged for the two to meet. The patient refused the recommended procedure. We respect every patient’s right to decide the type of treatment they want – and that includes no treatment at all. Although we understand the difficulty the patient’s original surgical procedure created, I was not her original surgeon. And although I did all I could to help, she ultimately refused the follow-up care we recommended.
