My Experience
Consultation: I was very pleased to have a complimentary consultation. I arrived not sure of what size I wanted to be. I was more concerned about having a nice shape as opposed to a big size. My major concern was wearing tank tops or swimsuit tops because I always had some, what I thought was "bra fat"....... that would poke out through the sides. I also always had to wear a push-up bra to get some cleavage. I took my mom to the consultation with me.
What I wanted: Nice smooth shape when I wore tight tank tops or a low cut shirt. I wanted to improve the look of my "bra fat". I am 24, weigh 125lbs and wore a 32B pre BA.
What I did NOT want: To look top heavy, or fat. I have seen some people with breast implants that end up looking very top heavy sort of like they are falling over...I did NOT want that!
They took me back to the consultation room and gave me a robe. I am happy to say that I was very pleased with consultation with Dr. Kaila. He took the time to listen to what I wanted. It is so difficult to find a doctor that will take the time to actually listen to what YOU want. I had been to other consults but when I went to Dr. Kaila I knew that I had found the right doctor. He listened to alllllll of my concerns, and we tried on different sizers. The sizers were the highlight of my consult because I was able to visualize what size I would be comfortable with. I chose 355cc SIENTRA moderate profile. Dr. Kaila explained to me when choosing an implant size it is important to take into account the ratio between size of your "bum" to the size of your breast. I have a good size bum so I was able to pick the 355 cc SIENTRA Textured Silicone Implants.
Why I chose the implants that I did:
I was aware that there are different brands/types of implants. Saline, Smooth Silicone, Silicone Textured, Shaped. Dr. Kaila was great at explaining all the options that I had. I let Dr. Kaila know that if If I was going to invest my money for a BA I wanted to invest in the best implants that were available.
-I went with silicone textured by Sientra aka the "GUMMY BEAR" Implant because it gave me peace of mind. If the gummy bear implant was to rupture, the implant and silicone will stay put in the capsule (like if you were to cut a gummy bear the pieces would stay put).
-I went with the textured surface because it provides a surface for the tissue to adhere to, therefore less turning of the implant in the capsule.
-I chose round implants because I did not want the sloped look that the shape implants provide.
-I chose under the muscle because although I wanted good cleavage I still wanted a natural look with less rippling.
-I chose 355 cc because I felt It gave me a nice silhouette and It balanced my body out with my bum to breast ratio.
-I chose SIENTRA because it had the best warranty for the implants. Sientra is also the only company that offers capsular contraction replacement program. They also give a LIFETIME product replacement if the implant was to rupture. This gives me peace of mind because I know I'm covered.
Why I knew Dr. Kaila was the right doctor for me:
Dr. Kaila is a board certified plastic surgeon in Canada, a member of the American Society of Plastics Surgery (ASPS), and has done thousands of surgeries with the gummy bear implants. I found out he even helped design implants in Canada which are not yet available in the US. When I found out that Dr. Kaila has so much experience with the SIENTRA gummy bear implants I knew I wanted him to do my surgery.
Day of Surgery:
I arrived to the surgery on 5/27/14 at 8:30 a.m. Everyone was very friendly! I met with the anesthesiologist who was very knowledgeable. They asked my history with surgeries and anesthesia. Dr. Kaila marked me and then I was brought back to the Operating Room. I was surprisingly very calm. I was sure that I had made a right decision for me in terms of chosing a doctor, implant type, and size.
Recovery:
-Day of Surgery: To my surprise I did not have any discomfort from waking up from anesthesia. I also did not feel a lot of pain... it was more of a feeling of pressure. I slept on my recliner chair, watched a lot of TV and took it easy. I couldn't really move my arms up so I recommend wearing a button down shirt. I had someone with me at all times for the first 24 hrs.
-1 Day Post Op: I had bandages and a compression bra. The bandage tapes and compression really helped to not feel as much pain. I took it very easy day 1 as I really wanted to give my body time to heal. My breast were very tight and very high.
-1 Wk. BA
I had my first Post Op appointment with Dr. Kaila. He removed the bandages. I was so happy to see my breast with out the tapes! I could not believe that I had waited so long to do the surgery. I also went back to work week 1. I did not feel 100 % better yet but I felt better each day.
-2 Wk. BA: feeling more like myself. The implants are starting to drop but still very tight. I am still sleeping elevated because it feels comfortable.
-3 Wk. BA: feeling a lot better! Every day gets easier. Sleeping on my back. I also tried on some swimsuit tops and I LOVE it!!!! I am very happy with the size I chose. I feel like they aren't to big not to small. Pre-surgery I was 32 B, I measured myself post-op and am 32 D. I am sure that my size will change since I am only 3 weeks Post Op. I have noticed that the implants are dropping and beginning to look more natural. Also my "bra fat" is gone! The implant really filled in the skin that would poke out whenever I wore tank tops. I also got the ok to start doing aerobic activity cant wait!!!
So far so good! I would recommend Dr. Kaila at BlueWater Surgery to anyone considering BA. He has been great in the whole process. I will keep updating... and if you are considering getting a BA I would say go for it!
