Breathing better

It's now been over 6 weeks since my minor revision procedure, and I haven't once woken up in the middle of the night with my nose feeling blocked. The procedure itself was uneventful: I had intravenous anesthesia, but it felt just like general anesthesia in the sense that I don't remember a thing. Recovery was fine.

My life now seems back on track. Whereas I was sleeping 5 hours many nights, now I'm averaging close to 7. My sleep isn't perfect, but it's under control and seems to be getting better.

A few weeks later...

Dr. Mehta and I have spoken since my original review, and Dr. Mehta now believes he has identified a potential cause of the problems I have been having. He will perform a minor procedure in the near future and has indicated that he will do his best to ensure that all issues are resolved.

If there is one decision I've made in the past 10...

If there is one decision I've made in the past 10 years that I wish I could take back, it would be the one to have surgery with Dr. Mehta. I had nasal collapse as a result of other health issues and surgeries, and this made breathing sometimes difficult, especially at night. Dr. Mehta used some of my rib cartilage to make a graft that was supposed to fix this. He also said that my nasal airway was small and that he could increase it.

Since having the surgery, I wake up most days with my right nostril feeling completely blocked. I do not sleep well at all and am always fighting exhaustion. I wanted to give myself time to heal before posting a review, but it's now been almost 9 months. My life hasn't been the same since the surgery. It was an utter catastrophe.

After the surgery, Dr. Mehta refused to take responsibility for the problems I was having. He kept trying to refer me to other doctors--sinus specialists, etc. When I finally saw Dr. Sam Most, he immediately saw the problem. I'm now praying that when a year has passed, Dr. Most will be able to help me. I don't know what I was thinking when I chose Dr. Mehta instead of Dr. Most. It may have been because Dr. Mehta is friendly and reassuring and seems like a nice guy. But after a botched surgery, saying he's on my side while he does nothing doesn't really add up to much.
