“Almost died from lipo dissolve”

Lipodissolve: NOT worth it

Cost: $900
Pain: Painfree
Lipodissolve satisfaction: Poor1 Star Rating: Poor

I recently had lipo dissolve and suffered serious complications. I am a healthy 33 yr. old female weighing 135 lbs. at 5'7". I had 50cc of lipo dissolve injected into each thigh, for a body total of 100cc. About an hour after the procedure I began to feel very sick and in extreme pain. All I could do was lay down. The swelling and inflammation was intense as was the pain. That evening I began having difficulty breathing, my chest began to contract and tighten, my limbs went numb and tingled, my fingers curled. I told my husband I could not breathe, he called 911. Paramedics came decreased my heart rate and slowed my breathing. Later that evening I felt very nauseated and my chest hurt badly. I needed to use the restroom, my husband helped me walk, next thing I remember I woke up on the bathroom floor in convulsions and couldn't breathe, my family looking over me, saying "sit her up". I had passed out, was white as a ghost, and drenched in sweat. I slept sitting up. The next morning I would pass out 2 more times, with help walking, trying to get to and from the restroom. The swelling is so intense my skin is stretched to the max and stretch marks have formed. I can barely walk and I get winded very easily just trying to move. I feel dizzy and nauseated. I have seen a Dr. and was put on celebrex and told to drink 3 gallons of water and gatorade a day. I was told that I had too much injected and it was an overdose. This has been the most horrible ordeal I have ever been through and has scared me and my family to death. I just pray to god I haven't caused permanent damage.

Update: 9/6/2007

It's been 18 days. I am still in compression pantyhose everyday, hard lumps in my thighs, still very sore and painful, still not back to my original size, can not kneel down, have no feeling on the entire right side of my upper thigh. I have an apt. with a plastic surgeon on Monday to see what exactly is still going on. Really regret what I did and I do not advise any one to have this procedure done. And no I have no "results".

Update: 9/12/2007

It has been 26 days. I am now under the care of a reconstruction plastic surgeon. I am so lucky to have found a Dr. that is willing to help me through this long recovery process, which I am now told will take at least a year if not up to two. He has me on a high dose week pack of steriods, I will then go back, and see what our next course of action will be. I still have no feeling in the right side of my upper thigh, burning sensations above each knee, can not kneel or squat, sit indian style. I am still wearing the compression pantyhose. And I am still not back to my orginal size. So to all you out there getting "great results" good for you, but how dare you say take these negative comments with a grain of salt. We are real people that have had real complications. And people need to be aware that this procedure is NOT FDA approved, therefore do your research, throughly. I will make it my personal goal to see, like Europe, this will be banned in the United States, as well.

Update 10/4/2007

2 months after the procedure, I am still under the care of a reconstructive plastic suregeon whom I see twice a week. I have nerve damage and only time will tell if it is permanent. My thighs are lumpy and uneven by at least 3 cm's, I suffer in pain everyday. I am still not back to my pre procedure size. All I can say is what a total nightmare this has been and is. When will the FDA step in?

Hello Amy, I read your posting regarding lipo dissolve treatment. i think we may both have had similar experience after this treatment. I have some question you may be able to answer. How are you feeling now? How long ago did you get it done? When did you start feeling better? Do you still feel short of breath? How long did the sweating last? Did the celebrex , water and gatorage help? Being unable to breathe and move my arms was the most horrible experince o my life. I hope it didn't cause any permanant damage. I hope you read my posting.

Amy, I am so very sorry for what happened to you. It is horrible and I do believe that in that case the Physician/clinic who administered this should take FULL responsibility for what happened. However, in your anger and frustration, no matter how understandable it is easy to percive others comments as being insulting or intrusive to you at a time like this. If you are a fair and reasonable person, which i trust you are, I am sure you are well aware that some people are indeed not allergic or have been treated b a competent person that is able to perform the procedure properly. Trying to ban this altogether is not fair to the thousands of people who could ultimatley potentially derive major benefits from this. I know that you do not know me, personally, however I offer you my services at no charge {edited} you will see what I have to offer you in order to help you get over this time of anguish and make your recovery all the more comfortable. Simply as one human being to another.... Again I am sorry for your pain and am excited about being able to help in any way I can. By the way... I have ABSOLUTLEY NO AFFILIATION with FIg or Lipodissolve .. I am just one of the ladies commenting here on the forum. Best Wishes Aymee Editor note: Removed commercial advertising link
