First...the mommy makeover was very painful. I didn't feel the breast lift at all, but the tummy tuck was excruciating. It has now been more than three months and my tummy is still numb. That's not a big deal, but there's a ball of muscle above my belly button that I'm hoping goes away with time.
So far, what I love the most is that the "girl" is perkier and higher--she's where she should be as opposed to the middle age (I'm 45) droop that my mother and every other older woman failed to mention happens with age and childbirth. That was immediate. I feel sexier and younger in that regard. I was hoping that she would be lifted considerably and voila! As a woman, that's very important!
I'm a bit on the claustrophobic side, and while I understand it's mind over matter, being bound up immediately after the tummy tuck was very difficult for me. We have a tall bed, which is not a good fit for this surgery. If I had to do it over, I'd lower the bed considerably so that I could roll out of it and into it. I felt helpless as I had to have help with EVERYTHING, even getting into and out of bed.
Needing help with everything pushed my husband a little harder than he likes to be pushed. We survived it, but be forewarned...your husband or partner HAS to be on board with this and he should be briefed on all the details. Apparently, even though my hubby was on board, he failed to grasp the full measure of what this would mean for HIM and his household responsibilities. One thing is certain, he has a much better understanding of all that I do because I couldn't do ANY OF IT!
Was it worth it? So far, yes. There are things that are still evening out. One areola is healing faster than the other, so my breasts look slightly asymmetrical, but that should work itself out over time. I feel confident that if there are any obvious issues that I’m not happy with, Dr. Deluca will fix them, so I’m not worried.
Personally, I wish I’d been able to lose a little more weight before the surgery. I’m about 20 pounds over where I want to be and I believe that I would have been more comfortable (post operative) without the extra weight. I also thought (and hoped) that the surgery would make the weight loss a little easier, but it hasn’t. It’s not a miracle, but it has improved my overall appearance and the belly flab is GONE!!!

Hi I wondered how you are doing now?

Thanks for sharing your experience! I love your advice about making sure your husband/partner is on board. That is really important. I think it should be mandatory for them to read RealSelf reviews, too! :)
