Zoom whitening: Worth it
Pain: Painfree
I have always wanted to try the Zoom treatment but never could justify the $500 ish cost. A few months ago I was at a festival and won a treatment from a new Dentist in the area. I had read all of the horrid reviews, as well as speaking to a girlfriend who had it and said it was very painful and she wouldn't do it again. I had also been given a different whitening treatment for a Christmas gift at our local mall a couple of years ago. It, too had a light but was a straight 30 minute treatment. Towards the end of the procedure, I could definitely feel the zingers. Since I had experienced this pain, I was even more apprehensive of the Zoom.
Needless to say, I rescheduled my appointment twice due to my nerves and nearly turned around on the actual day. Boy was I wrong!!
I had the Zoom for 3-15 minute intervals and had absolutely NO zingers. I did feel a small burning on my gum which I told the hygienest and she added more gauze and it was fine. The only time I felt any sensation was at about 9:30 that night when I was almost asleep. It was a short zing and I just pressed my tongue on the tooth and it was gone. Nothing else that night or the next day.
My girlfriend that went through so much pain couldn't believe it!! Just a couple of things......the entire procedure takes around 2 hours whereas the time under the light is only 45 minutes. The prep is the main time consumer. But this is for your own good. And I think the MAIN reason I didn't feel the zingers is because I brushed my teeth about 4 times a week for 2 months prior to the procedure with a stannous flouride treatment. You can get this in advance from the dentist, it's not sold over the counter. This is made for sensitive teeth. I am very pleased with the results and best of all it was free!! I can't remember my tech's name but she was very thorough and attentive....never leaving the room in case I got in trouble. Good luck!!

So you didn't use sensodyne (sp?) or a similar toothpaste, but a treatment you can only get from a dentist? Is it similar "protection" to what you get from the toothpastes?
