Septorhinoplasty - Valve Collapse and Spreader Grafts Inserted

Not Sure
Spent: $5,000 in Australia

I underwent a septo rhinoplasty to correct breathing difficulties (in particular valve collapse caused by a previous septoplasty and straightening of the anterior part of my septum which was not corrected at the time of the first septoplasty). However, in spite of this I am still continuing to experience breathing difficultes in one nostril and my nose still "sucks inward" on both sides when I breathe in.

I chose to have a rhinoplasty performed at the same time to enhance the cosmetic appearance of my nose.

Rhinoplasty did improve the cosmetic appearance of my nose. However despite the insertion of spreader grafts at the time I have continued to experience breathing difficulties and my nostrils still move inward when I breathe in.

My nose still significantly "sucks inwards" when I breathe in even though I had spreader grafts (made from my septal cartliage) inserted at the time of my septorhinoplasty. Is it possible to have further surgery to reinforce the grafts to fix this problem? -- Updated October 16, 2009: Will the insertion of lateral crural extension grafts at 5 months post rhinoplasty affect the final cosmetic result? Also how effective are these grafts at correcting valve collapse?

Alar collapse can be due to several factors, but batten grafts can sometimes be used to stiffen this lateral segment of the nose (quite different than spreaders, btw). --DCP
