Nightmare Juvederm Fillers Left Me Looking Like a Duck

Not Worth It
Spent: $1,000 in West Palm Beach, Florida

Just wanted to hide a few wrinkles around my mouth and end up looking like a duck.

It was painful, the bruises lasted for 2 weeks and it was expensive.  All that would be okay if I look better than before, but I look worse!  I am very self-concious and depressed about it.

Never again!

Updated on Jun 26, 2009:

I did it to hide a few wrinkles.  Juvederm is the wrong thing for it.

Updated on Jul 7, 2009:

I am including a picture that was taken before the procedure and pointing with arrows at the wrinkle that I wanted to hide.  I looked better before without a doubt!

I took pictures off the website. I am afraid somebody that knows me, sees them.

My Doctor:

My rating:
He told me the swelling would be gone in 3 to 4 days and that I wouldn't look like a duck. I still look like one and it's been 6 weeks. Bruising is terrible and impossible to hide with makeup.

I am so sorry. Who is this nut? I think we paying customers have the right to know who is doing this so that we can avoid them at all costs! How many syringes did he use?
aabob (29 posts) 30 Jun 2009

{edited} is the name of the doctor that injected 2 syringes. I can't wait to look normal again. It's been 7 weeks and still looks awful.

Edited by Tom: aabob's doctor is shown above.  To view it, you'll be asked to join the RealSelf community (free of course)

TWO syringes? in this area? were they 0.8 mL each? that is unreal! i use ONE syringe for my whole entire face and i come out looking youthful and natural!

I know he injected too much, I guess he was only interested in charging me as much as he could. How long does it last before it's all gone? I would like to see your results if you don't mind.

Sure I can show u results of my face but I ain't gonna post here for the world to see. :) i can forward you a pic from my email account. the best Juve practitioners are those who understand how conservative one must be with this product. one dr. (she is in TX now and i was so sad to see her leave my city) was very, very VERY conservative and cautious. she used about 1/2 syringe on both my NL folds combined, also put some in my cheek, and saved the rst for touchups later. i was totally gorgeous by the time she got finished with me. i also got rave reviews about how good i looked that night, but i did not tell anybody what i did. just that i looked so "young" all of a sudden. No swelling or bruising. the results were immediate. It would be worth driving to TX every 6 - 9 months just to let her inject you. btw what is your age?

Hey Krystal, I'm new to Texas and was hoping to find out the name of the Dr. that you used to go to. Would you be able to help me out? Thank you

Would like to have names of doctors in palm beach area that are conservative. What doctor did this to you?

Hi Dot Sand, yes please register. Also whom are you asking? I have two physicians (dermatologists) whom i have found to be conservative and wonderful, in addition to injecting myself now. One is in NOLA, one trained in NOLA under her but is now in TX. They may know someone in the Palm Beach area who is good.

do you have any before pics? Juve 24 is not the thing to hide mild wrinkles. Juve 24, 30, and other high viscous HA products are optimal for deep wrinkles, folds, depressions for giving lift. There are less viscous HA products that are good for light wrinkles that are injected very close to the epidermis that Juvederm also offers.

Once every couple of years a I get some filler in my lips. Still I have full lips but with age they have fade a bit. This is the first time I got juverderm (almost 6 months ago) and I must say I can't wait for it to go away. The same duck effect. I have got Restylane before with very positive results. For some reason Juverderm tends to deform my mouth. Lots of bruising as well (never bruised before). There is a chance that the doctor that applied Juverderm was not skilled at it as well.

Juve is wonderful product. The doctor can literally make you or break you.

I had it done on Tuesday. I was told that I could go back to work. YEAHHH right!!! I was swollen and bruised and immediately did not like the results. I got it, for very small lines around the top and bottom of my lips...not really necessary. I have black and blues all over and around the sides of my mouth. One side looks fatter than the other above my lip..Today is day 3...I regret ever doing it as I know feel like I look like Holmer Simpson with duck lips...not good! I pray that the swelling evens out otherwise I will have one side fuller than the other. It last a year...ohhh boyy better think twice before you mess with your already pretty face!!!

Dear Not Good, which version did he use? Did he use Juvederm 18, Juvederm 24, Juvederm 30? THere is a big difference in viscosity amongst them all. Juvederm 24 is a favorite and mostly used, but it is highly viscous and should be used for lifting and filling deeper lines and not for the fine lines around the eyes and mouth. For the fine lines, Juvederm 18 is best. How much of a syringe did he use? Did he use 1 mL syringe? did he use the whole thing? all these factors must be considered before getting injected. Unfortunately, many customers go in expecting the doctor to be the expert at this, but many of them do not properly understand the biochemical properties of the product and misjudge which one to use for what purpose, and misjudge the amount to use. It is best to use smaller amounts because Juve absorbs 1000 x its weight in water and must be given about 2 weeks to see what it will look like. I only put about 100 ul into my top lip and about 120 ul into my bottom lip when I inject myself. My whole lip area only takes about 1/4 of a syringe. anybody who puts more than that is risking looking like a duck. I injected my lips March 2009, and it has been 4 months and they still look great!

I think there is something they can inject to make the juvederm dissolve more quickly...ask a reputable doctor about it...I unfortunately got too much Radiesse,,,and I just have to wait it out. :(

There ought to be something available to compensate people for being sold garbage that does not work. What a shame Most of what is offered at spas and with plastic surgery do not work at best or ruing you life. Look at Joan Rivers face. Nightmare

My doctor was also very unskilled, though she told me that "people come to me to correct their lips done by other physicians." Wow, I can't believe how bad those people must have bad to look to go to her for the fix. What she did is nothing short of deforming my mouth. Instead of focusing on lips, she tried to widen my smile (injecting around it), and build out my top lip like a horse. Im so depressed Im considering taking a leave of absence from my masters program because I can't focus. 2 months now and I have giant uneven parentheses on both sides of my mouth ( ( --- ) ) that are raised higher than my lips. Most of the good effect of the Juvederm went away in the lips, and thankfully some of the horsiness when I tried to dissolve this stufff (twice). It never took away the big problem though - the sides of my mouth. Don't buy the lie that they sell on this site that Juvederm is "easily" remedied by injecting hyaluronidase. It doesnt always work, even after multiple tries, and you can't keep doing it because it can cause damage to tissues. So after 2 tries I'm stuck and marking my calendar for sometime in April when maybe the clouds will clear and I can see my old smile again. And like you, my swelling persists after 2 months. Face is completely swollen in the morning, and then more hanging, spongey, and tacky feeling skin after a couple hours. I can literally pull about an my skin out from either side of my face It does NOT go away. Thats another lie they tell you ... "3 to 4 days" of swelling. It's just not true. The bruising, went away in 2 weeks, but not the swelling. I dont doubt it will last as long as the juvederm is there. Hang in there and keep us posted on your progress. I'm glad there is a forum here to allow the truth to at least be told, because you ask a plastic surgeon, and they tell you that you are over-reacting and too hard on your appearance, act like they dont see it, or that you always looked like this and just didnt notice your face "fell" like thus. All these things I've been told. Give me a break. It's time for them to take some responsibility for the outcome with their patients.

Hi,
I just read your post. Did your face and lips ever go back to normal. I had the same problem as you with my lips. It is driving me crazy. It has been about 14 weeks not and my bottom lip is still swollen after all of this time. Had the vitrase once, and he refuses to do it again. Should I wait it out, or go to another doctor??

I had a similar problem and had it done twice. The second time it caused small indents in various places. I should have left it alone. I had injections done to fill in the dents, but, it didn't fill in the dents. It caused pockets of filler in my face where there shouldn't be any filler. It created wrinkles were known existed. That was in December 2003. I still have pockets of filler, dents, more wrinkles around my mouth and lips(that normally would not be there)...in all the places she injected! She was suppose to be an expert, correcting a mistake from someone else(another expert). People have to understand it is a money making business. We live we the damage. They get to keep the money.

I meant to say above .. i can literally pull an INCH of skin out from either side of my face with this swelling. Its not pretty.

Aww. :( I can imagine how upset you are. Hope you sue this doctor. It's hard to wait..But it will go down eventually.

The bruising should have gone away in a few days it is a painful procedure in your lips I know. I'm sorry you had a bad experience I wish you well. I like the duck lip actually that is what I wanted. Very expensive I have to admit. I wouldn't do it again without dental block!
