“Invisalign - Good for Mild Cases (Had Braces for Overbite As a Teen)”
Posted 22 Sep 2009
I had braces when I was a teenager to correct an overbite. And like many others who did not wear the retainer my teeth shifted. Though my bite is not as bad as it was then. I feel self conscious when I smile because of this. This really came to my attention when I took some pictures and noticed my teeth. Not in a good way. They were screaming for help to put them back in their place so we both can live a happy and healthy life.
I decided to get invisalign because I wanted to be able to brush and floss my teeth without anything hindering getting to any part of my mouth. I actually don't mind the look of braces but I have had issues with my gums in the past which has been taken care of. I did not want to worry about having food particles stuck in between my teeth that I could not get to with traditional braces.
I am currently in my sixth week of treatment, (my third tray) and everything is going well so far. I have a fairly simple case, so I should not have to have them on for long. 9 top trays and 6 bottom. I have 2 buttons on my teeth. One on the top and one on the bottom. I have not had much pain at all. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones.
The only discomfort I have had is probably just the first day I put a new set of aligners in. I haven't had the need for any mild pain medication. It's pretty tolerable. The only thing I don't like is my mouth does get realy dry as do my lips. It has gotten better because I have invested in a really good lip balm and I drink a lot more water.
I have taken pictures everytime I put a new set of aligners in, and I have seen some suttle differences. I do not want to post them because of how I feel about my teeth now. When I am done hopefully I'll have the confindence to post some with my fianl results. Until then....
