Worth It
Spent: $1,900 in Broadstairs, Kent, UK

Hi, I am female and from England (hence the price above). I am currently undergoing this treatment. I am having my first set of aligners in 5 weeks. Overall I have been very impressed with my dentist. I do not believe he is an orthodontist but he specialises in this treatment.

You have to remember that the orthodontist/dentist is purely the middle man in this. They can only take impressions of your teeth and assess your progress. It is actually the company invisaligns' responsibility for your treatment, the dentist has no control over your actual treatment.

I will update you more when i start the treatment!!

Updated on Jul 28, 2009:

 Date: 28th July 2009.

I now have my first aligner in!! It's nearly been 24 hours since fitting, and so far so good! Mild discomfort (to be expected, I am shifting my teeth after all) but nothing to write home about! I am really impressed with how they fit in my mouth and how thin the plastic on the brace is. I do have a slight lisp though (! which my partner finds hilarious) but the more i practice talking the quicker it is going away :D so no real problems there.

The one thing I am finding a bit annoying is having to take it out whenever I eat (sounds silly and I was aware of this beforehand) however, I can't just eat whenever or wherever i want now, as it means sticking my fingers in my mouth to pull out the brace, and in some public settings this is not something you want to be doing... but all in all I am so happy with it - and if my treatment is successful I will recommend to anyone who wants to try it.

I have taken before pics from most angles and also with the aligner on which i will publish online when i get a chance.

I hope my review is helpful, and I will update as appropriate!

Hannah, I am speaking from experience when I say that it is advisable that the Invisalign provider has some expertise in moving teeth. I too started treatment with an Premier Provider (cosmetic dentist) who led me to believe that the computer "does all the work" and the dentist is not responsible for the treatment. It turned out that the computer's treatment plan was flawed, and I ended up with a worse problem than the one I started with (i.e. I could no longer close my top and bottom teeth when I tried to bite down). Because the dentist had no orthodontic experience, he was incapable of fixing the problem. Long story short, I had to completely start over with an orthodontist. I am now on the 4th tray of 21 and am very happy with the new provider. You're problem may be minor and its possible that the doctor could be ok relying on the computer; however, I would be vigilant and ensure that your dentist is closely monitoring for any negative trends during your treatment.

Hello there - I am sorry to hear of your first time bad experience. I need to update this anyway - no the dentist I am seeing is an orthodontist! I didn't claim this at the beginning because i wasn't sure. You're right - there's responsibility from both ends, but he seems competent and all I can do is hope for the best. I will be have two weekly updated appts to monitor my progress...does this seem about right to you from your experience? Many Thanks, H.

Hello! I am looking for an orthodontist and the one you have seems ok and the price is very good. Would you mind giving me address? Thank you, Apriltiti

That's good to hear you are dealing with an orthodontist after all. With both providers, I had/still have update appointments every 6 weeks or 3 aligners. The main difference was that the cosmetic dentist wasn't part of my six week check-ups (he just got one of his assistants to give me the next 3 aligners). The orthodontist I am dealing with now does see me at the check-ups. As long as your doctor is involved in the update visits, that should provide adequate monitoring of progress. Best of luck with your treatment.
