“IPL for Red Hyperpigmentation Marks Left over from Severe Acne - Canada”
Spent: $200 in Canada
Hi there, I have very pale skin and I have red angry after acne marks all along my cheeks. My dermatologist suggested IPL to get lessen those marks and to treat the remainder of my acne.
We started at a 22 and were supposed to go up to a 24 but I ended up having to decrease to an 18 because I found it really painful. Will it still work on such a low setting? The RN who performed the IPL treatment said it would still work but that I would probably need an additional treatment. As it is, i'm going for IPL treatments once a week for four weeks and then decreasing to once a month. I'm not sure how long i'll be doing it once i'm down to the once a month frequency. Thanks!
Will IPL work on a low setting as well?
Updated on 28 Jan 2011:
It's been over a year now. I did the initial three treatments in three weeks last year and it definitely helped. Looking at the pictures from then to now my skin in completely clear and my acne scars are healing nicely and faster than they would have without the IPL. I have started the IPL again this past fall once a month and have continued and I can't say enough about how much it has helped. My skin texture is better, my marks are less red and I don't have acne! Part of the reason my acne has disappeared has to be because I started an antibiotic that seems to be working really well; however, i'm sure the IPL has contributed to it as well.

My dermatologist is very good. And her staff is fantastic. She came in and made me at ease and talked with the RN about the settings. Was very good, just very painful!
