Filler After Eye Surgery Creates New Eye Bags

Everyone told me I looked tired and I thought I looked great except for my huge eyebags. Everyone urged me to get rid of them. The surgery was fine and recovery was very fast. I looked years younger and felt fabulous. However, after the eyebags were removed, the doctor injected filler so it wouldn't be hollow, but now it looks as if the eye bags are back.

Dr. says it looks fine, but everyone says I look "tired" and I think I wasted my money in getting the eye surgery because all I have now is fake eye bags...I look the same!

Can the filler be removed?

I feel that I've wasted a lot of money and a lot of time.

Hi Pearl,

Do you know what filler your doctor used?

Restylane and Juvederm can be removed with hyaluronidase and some other fillers can be excised/squeezed out under certain circumstances. But it depends on what's in there.

Thanks...I don't know what filler was used, but I guess I'll go back and find out and tell him to take it out. I feel relieved because I thought nothing could be done!
Hi Pearl1 - if it was Juvederm or Restylane then it can be dissolved with hylauronidase. However, word of warning about hyaluronidase - some people have a hypersensitivity reaction to it. See my review and others. Your eyes could look worse! Make sure they do a test on your arm before you let them put it under your eyes. Have the shot in your arm then see what happens for a few days. If it comes up in a lump etc then maybe it would be better just to wait for the filler to dissolve. Also, it is very important that the person administering the hyaluronidase knows the product and knows what they are doing. Hyaluronidase dissolves hyaluronic acid fillers (Juvederm/Restylane) but a large component of your own tissue is also hyaluronic acid. You want to make sure that the injector uses the dilutes the product and administers a little at a time only where the filler is. If you are not satisfied with the result, then go back and have a little more hyaluronidase injected after two weeks or so. Take it slowly. Let your body heal in between. Hyaluronidase in the wrong hands can be a horror! Let us know how you go. Cheers
Did you find out which filler was used?
Still haven't gone back. How long does it take filler to dissolve by itself? I looked great after the surgery, but then two little "globules of migrating fat" from the upper lid leaked down and created distinct bumps on the outside section of the lower lid. The doctor removed them surgically and then "took in a stitch" so my lower lids wouldn't droop open. Now my lids look unnatural as eyelashes don't grow where the stitch was taken up...and then he put in filler, which has given me bags under my eyes again. I had the surgery to get rid of the bags, and now not a day goes by that someone doesn't comment that I look exhausted - because of the lower eyelid swelling. I had the original surgery in Dec. 2007, and the two lumps removed in Feb. 2008, and the filler put in about 4 months ago while getting filler for beside my mouth. He said, "Well, I've got some left over, let's just put it under your eyes so you don't develop hollows."
