I had breast implants put in 2004 and I believe I am now experiencing capsular contraction. Last year, I discovered abnormal bumps on the upper part of my breast and my regular dr sent me back to me surgeon who then sent me for a mammogram. He said that all was fine at that point and to cut back on coffee...I noticed that the breast was getting harder and harder...I wanted to go back and see him only to discover that he has retired! There is no replacement or info to contact anyone else...he is just gone. I am not sure what to do now.

I am not sure what to do now. I will need to go and see another surgeon and then will need to pay a ton of money to get this corrected I am guessing? Is it unsafe to go on with a breast that has capsular contraction. It is uncomfortable and hard but can't afford another surgery right now...what are my options? Thanks!

Sorry to hear about the problems you've been having but I hope you're able to find the support you need here.

IMHO the first step is to find a new doctor. You can find board-certified docs in our British Columbia breast implant doctor directory. Some of them offer free consultations and upon examination they'll be able to tell you if you do have capsular contracture. Finding someone you trust is the first step towards getting it sorted out.

BTW, here's a related thread that might also help: Fixing capsular contracture

Please keep us posted on how you're doing!

Sorry to hear you are in pain. Capsular contractures are the most common benign complication following breast augmentation surgery. It is unpredictable unfortunately, and in most cases, especially when patients are suffering from pain, requires surgical revision. However, recent evidence (currently unpublished!) has demostrated that certain medications can help reverse the contraction changes. It is not 100% by any means, but if surgery is not an option, I would discuss medical treatments with your Board Certified Plastic Surgeon.
