Does Zinc Oxide Sunblock Need to Be Reapplied As Often As Chemical Sunscreens?

I use blue lizard for sensitive skin and the active ingredients are zinc oxide and titanium dioxide. Since they are metals and reflect the UV rays instead of absorbing them, wouldn't their particles not break down or deactivate as much as a chemical "screen" would and therefore last longer on skin?
