Why risk lap band when you can restrict oral intake?

This is a difficult decision and would be made on an individual basis. Clearly, all non-surgical efforts should be made prior to pursuing surgical options. However, if the morbid obesity condition presented a more immediate concern, then a lap band could be an option. However, it is truly sad that this is required when limiting food intake makes a lot more sense at a far lower cost and risk ratio.

LapBand Age Restrictions

Most clinics restrict this type of procedure to adolescents and adults. The actual age criteria will be determined by the area in which you live and the experience of the clinic that will be performing the procedure.

Minimum Age for Lap Band

The lab band is FDA approved for 18-year-old adults or older. The FDA may approve the lap band for younger patients in the coming year. Some bariatric centers are doing sleeve gastrectomies and gastric bypasses on adolescents.

Minimum age for Lap-Band

Currently the Lap-Band is only approved by the FDA for patients at least 18 years of age. We are hoping that it will be approved by adolescents age 14 - 17 sometime next year.

I lost fifty pounds and my diteeabs has totally reversed simply by following a diet and walking for a minimum of thirty minutes a day. In order to get lap band surgery, you have to guarantee payment by putting up your house for collateral, prove, before they accept you for surgery, that you can stay on a diet, and eat their recommended diet for the rest of your life. So why bother with the expensive, invasive, body altering, and risky surgery? You're going to have to diet anyway. If I can lose fifty pounds in just over three months, imagine what you can do. I'm 56, btw.
