I'm 23 years old with no children, but my breasts sag as if I had already given birth. Is it okay for me to have a breast lift even though I am planning to have children in the future? Will it have any effect on pregnancy?

Breast Lift and Pregnancy
It is unlikely that breast lift will have a negative effect on pregnancy and nursing.
Of course, pregnancy can cause changes in breast shape and volume. Many women experience deflation and drooping after pregnancy and nursing.
If you are planning pregnancy in the near future, it is probably best to wait until you are done with your pregnancies.

Breast lift can interfere with your ability to breast feed
Dear Danied,
A breast lift can create a beautiful breast. However I recommend having your babies first and then consider a breast lift.
The breast lift surgery, called mastopexy is primarily a skin operation and should not injure the breast gland under normal circumstances. However, there is always the possibility that some of the milk ducts in the areola can be injured and this might interfere with your ability to breast feed after pregnancy.
I also encourage people to wait until after...

Breast Lift Surgery Should have No Effect on Pregnancy
Sagging breast are most often the result of stretched skin and ligaments that give the breast a droopy or deflated look. Pregnancy, the effects of age and gravity, and rapid weight loss can cause the breast to sag or droop. For patients who plan to start a family, I generally recommend waiting to have cosmetic surgery due to the drastic changes the body undergoes during the pregnancy process. The breast lift (mastopexy) procedure should have no effect on your pregnancy or ability to nurse as...

Do your homework
While a breast lift usually does not have an adverse effect on breast feeding, your breast may change curing the process. If you are unhappy with your current look then meet with a certified plastic surgeon and discuss your options. Look at pictures and do research about women who have had a breast lift before having children.

Breast lift surgery and pregnancy or lactation
There are different types of breast lifts performed. Some may have a higher chance of interrupting breast lactation. However, breast lifts will not interfere with pregnancy.

Breast lift before pregnancy
Hormonal changes which occur with pregnancy will have an effect on breast tissue, and may change the size and shape of your breasts. The result of a breast lift performed before pregnancy may be altered by subsequent pregnancies. In addition, there is a small risk of loss of nipple sensation and inability to breastfeed after breast lift surgery.

Pregnancy may undo some of the aesthetic benefits of a breast lift.
Pregnancy is accompanied by physiologic changes in the breast. This can lead to volume and shape changes when the pregnancy is over. If you have a mastopexy (breast lift) now, a future pregnancy might undo some or all of the benefits. This is not necessarily the case but should be a consideration for you if children are in your future.

Pregnancy after breast lift
It is possible to become pregnant and breast feed after a breast lift. However, depending on the technique that is used for the breast with surgery your ability to breast-feed may be limited or completely impaired. Discuss your concerns with a board-certified plastic surgeon with great deal of experience in breast lift surgery. They may be able to modify the surgery so as to leave as much of the central portion of the breast intact as possible to hopefully create a breast...

Breast lift surgery will not affect a pregnancy but the reverse may be true
Breast Lift Surgery minus any attempt to reduce breast size will not affect nursing nor have any other negative effect on the pregnancy. A pure breast lift will not disturb the normal anatomy that connects the nipple to the milk forming glandular tissue and doesn't injure the nursing mechanism. However, the reverse may very well occur with the pregnancy altering the benefits of the Breast Lift. Changes that result from the pregnancy, such as renewed sagging and loss of breast volume may...

Breast lift and pregnancy
A breast lift certainly can be performed. However, it is difficult to predict how the breasts will respond to pregnanct. They may sag again, necessitating another lift.

Effect of breast lift (mastopexy) on nursing and lactation with pregnancy
Any surgery on the breast has the potential to interfere with nursing and/or lactation. However, it is possible that you will be incapable of nursing even without surgery but that certainly is a risk. The more agressive procedures requiring rearrangement of the breast tissues (constricted or tuberous breasts) may have a greater risk of interfering of nursing.
However, it is more likely that rather than surgery having an effect on pregnancy, it is more likely that pregnancy will have an...

OK to get a breast lift if you want
Danied,
If you feel you need a lift, then it is okay for you to get one. The lift will not affect your pregnancy. Additionally, depending on the technique, the lift should not affect your success at breast feeding. Good luck with your surgery.

Breast Lifts for Sagging Breasts
Breast lifts can be done for many reasons: sagging breasts after pregnancy, sagging breasts from weight loss, tubular breast deformity or for sagging breasts that are genetic. That's right! Some women are going to have sagging breasts regardless of whether they have had children or they are in great shape. I am very busy treating patients such as yourself.
I explain that the shape of the breast tissue was pre-determined to look the way it does. The surgery is designed to reshape the breast...

Breast lift may affect breast feeding not pregnancy
Breast lift is not a single operation and the technique used will depend on the overall size, symmetry of the breast, and position of the nipple in relation to the fold. For modest droop a round block mastopexy or lift will suffice, and for those who have a nipple just below the fold a vertical mastopexy may be best. With these procedures the glandular breast is left alone and breast feeding may not be affected, however with increasing droop or ptosis, or asymmetry, reduction or shaping of...

No, but the reverse is true
Hi there,
It is unlikely that a breast lift will adversely affect your ability safely get pregnant, carry the pregnancy to term, or deliver a healthy baby.
There are some points to consider though:
Because the hormones of pregnancy and lactation will cause your breasts to swell and become engorged, it is possible that your skin will become stretched and loose again, thus negating the beneficial effects of your breast lift. You would then need to have the procedure repeated.
It is also...

The pregnancy may affect a breast lift instead
Your breast lift itself will have no effect on your pregnancy but your pregnancy can have an effect on your breast lift. There are many variables that must be addressed in your situation:
1. What is the degree of sagging of your breasts?
2. What is the size of your breasts?
3. Is your breast sagging the result of weight loss, or were they always positioned low?
Prior to a pregnancy, your breast lift should be quite successful if appropriately planned and performed. If you have a...

No effect on pregnancy, but nursing is a complex issue
Breast lift should not have any effect on the pregnancy process. When it comes to lactation there is always a chance that you will not be able to nurse. Lactation is a very complex process and many factors contribute to it e.g hormonal, psychological, etc..
On the other hand, pregnancy will make your breast increase in size and stretch and there is a possibility that it could sag again. The advice i give my patients is : If you are planning to have a child sometime in the next year or so,...

Breast lift has no effect on pregnancy
In a breast lift, your nipples are moved up, and the skin and breast tissue can be tightened to give you the lift.
Pregnancy will cause your breasts to swell and then after nursing, they will shrink again, so perhaps they may lose some of the effects of the lift, but, functionally they should work.

It is definitely OK to have a breast lift now
To danied,
Hi! You are 23 years old and you are entitled to have young looking breasts. So by all means have a breast lift now.
A breast lift will have absolutely no effect on your future pregnancies. A breast lift will not affect your ability to breast feed.
Of course, the babies may well have an effect on your breasts. So you may need a touch up when you are done with pregnancies and brest feeding.
How a breast lift is done is very important. You must not just tighten the skin. This...

Breast lift won't effect pregnancy, but pregnancy will effect breast lift results
If you're starting out with breast ptosis, you will probably get more ptotic with pregnancy, lactation, and nursing. No mastopexy or breast lift procedure can withstand these changes. I have had a number of patients who have gotten pregnant, delivered and did NOT nurse and no significant change in their breasts occurred. There is so much individual variation, so it's very difficult to predict.

It's fine to get a breast lift now, but you might need it redone later
If you aren't close to having children right now and would like the benefit of a breast lift, go ahead and have it done. You might sustain enough changes after having children that some further surgery might be indicated such as a repeat lift and or an augmentation. The lift shouldn't change anything about your pregnancy or breast feeding.

No
Pregnancy is not affected by the shape or size of your breasts. However, your breasts are affected by pregnancy so I assume you are not intending to get pregnant in the near future.
