Facial Plastic Surgery: Q&A

My Wife is in Constant Pain After Surgery
In December 2009, my wife had surgery above her right eyelid to remove what her eye doctor believed was a tumor. We came to find out after the pathology report it was not a tumor, he removed fat. I took her to another specialist who told us the lump in her eyelid was her Lacrimal Gland & it needed to be put back into place. Since the surgery in December she has been in constant pain. She did not have this pain before the surgery. Could he have damaged nerve endings & why is she in so much pain?

Eyelid pain after surgery.
It is quite unusual to have chronic pain in this area after the surgery. Occasionally, braches of the zygomatico-temoporal nerve in susceptible individuals can trigger excessive pain and discomfort. You may want to obtain a consultation from a oculoplastic surgeon as well as a neurologist.
