I'm a 32DD and I just turned 14 . I play a lot of sports and I have the biggest boobs on my teams I play on . I get stuff said about my boobs a lot . I'm not really that big I'm only like 138 pounds. Do you think I could get surgery to make my boobs smaller ?
Answer: I'm a 32DD and I just turned 14 . Can I get a boob reduction? I'm sorry to hear about the physical and psychosocial problems your disproportionately large breasts are causing you. It is probable that you are dealing with juvenile breast hypertrophy along with the physical and psychosocial consequences of this diagnosis. In other words, the breasts are too large for your frame causing both physical and psychological distress. In my practice, timing of breast reduction surgery is determined on a case-by-case basis. It is not too early to do your homework and learn as much as possible about breast reduction surgery and the potential risks and complications associated with the procedure. I am glad you have the support of your mother as you do your homework. It will be important that you learn about the potential risks/complications associated with breast reduction surgery. Unsatisfactory scarring is one of the potential complications. Make sure you also understands that further surgery may be necessary in the future (for example if the breasts were to grow in size again). On the other hand, breast reduction surgery is one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform and I think that for the right teenager (enough symptoms) it may be an excellent option (regardless of the age). Sometimes breast reduction surgery is covered through health insurance. The best way to obtain insurance coverage for breast reduction surgery involves some “hoops” to jump through. The more documentation you have (for example, from your primary care doctor, physical therapist, chiropractor etc.) the better when it comes to obtaining insurance “authorization” for the procedure. This documentation and letter/pictures from your plastic surgeon will help you obtain authorization. When the time is right, seek consultation with well-trained/experienced board-certified plastic surgeons. I hope this, and the attached link, helps. Best wishes.

Answer: Breast reduction Thank you for your question. Given your age, there is a chance that your body will go through more changes through your teens. This is not to say that surgeons will not operate on you, but that you should be seen in person by a board certified plastic surgeon with your parent's consent to determine if it would be in your best interest to get a breast reduction at your age.All the best,Dr. ResultsMiami, FL

Answer: Teen breast reduction There are certainly a different set of issues to consider when discussing breast reduction at a young age. I'm not opposed to doing a breast reduction as early as 14 years old, but there are added risks. I like to see that breast size has been stable for at least a year, if not longer, since you have increased in cup size. There is a much greater chance of having breast size changes as you mature. Many women can get bigger, but a lot of women get smaller after future pregnancies also. Either scenario may require future surgery. It is also important to know that most women can't breast feed after breast reduction. This is important to consider when you haven't had children yet. With all of those factors considered there are still times that breast reduction is appropriate to reduce symptoms of pain as well as improving your own body image. It is reasonable to sit down with a qualified surgeon and have an honest discussion to decide if this is the best option for you.
