Makeup Application Tools

Many suggest your fingers, but it's really important they are clean first.

I much prefer a foundation brush, as it gets into the crevices around the nose and eyes better and gives a smoother finish. A sponge wedgy works equally well and can also be used for powder foundations.

I also recommend:

  • A flat-edged angle brush - for brows and eyeliner
  • Upper and lower Blush brush - for blush, highlight or contour
  • Eyeshadow brush - for shadow (use separate ones for dark and light)
  • Blender brush - for blending shadow, adding shimmer on eyes & cheeks
  • A brush roll and clear carry bag to put all your tools in is essential for good organization

Wash your tools weekly in shampoo, rinse and let dry. And while you're at it clean out your carry bag with an antiseptic wipe and wipe everything down. This will enable you to preserve your powder pallets from becoming cakey and keep the bacteria that builds up to a minimum.

It's one thing to have good tools but caring for them is an essential for optimum performance.

Some of the best makeup tools are – quite literally – your fingertips! They are always handy (pun intended!), easily controlled, and the heat from your body helps to melt and blend makeup. I’m also a huge fan of Blotting Tissues for absorbing those mid-day oil slicks.

Use eyeliner instead of eyebrow stencils

Eyebrow stencils do the exact same thing as eyeliner - drawing the outline of the brow - but eyeliner also fills this outline in, making it a two-for-one product.  Eyebrow stencils are a waste of money. Two thumbs down!

Your fingers!  The foundation brush is completely useless and unnecessary.  A good foundation will apply and blend well using your fingers.

Use a blender brush – it literally makes your eyeshadow look airbrushed and is a great tool that makes every eyeshadow application look professional.

The best makeup tool people don't know about are THEIR FINGERS! Our 10 Tappers make great blending tools and are softer on the skin than many of the sponges sold in the store. I love using my fingers to dab lipstick on the lips as a soft stain. Your lips will look like they have a “baby-kissed” color.

Being a makeup fanatic, it is hard for me to call any tool useless because I can enjoy them for hours and I do makeup for a living. I feel that consumers often buy tools they aren't going to use because they get the fever that I do until they get home. When I work with clients, I like to find out their lifestyle and how much they will do on a daily basis to help them make the best selections possible.

Some of the blending tools are essential. But I also agree with Ramy as a foundation can be blend using fingers.

Applying Eye Make Up Tips to Create the Illusion of Depth ...

Eye shadows come in in several textures, powders (compacts), pencils, and creams:
Eye makeup tips

* Powder can be used either dry or wet and it's really easy to control. Make sure you look for a powder that feels moist.

* Pencils are fairly easy to use, but you need to remember to smear the line as you go or you'll have lines all over your face.

* Creams tend to be hard to control. They can look beautiful and stay that way if you use a good quality eye foundation (eye primer), otherwise they can slip and slide into the crease on your eyes and eyelids.
