I had a vaginoplsty 7 yrs ago and I have a hard time to get pregnant. What should I do? Do you think vaginoplasty is the reason. I have a daughter before I went to procedure but after this conceiving is very hard.

Pls. help what should I do? Thanks

A: Unlikly to affect fertility.

It is very unlikely for a vaginoplasty (tightening of the vagina entrance) to affect your fertility. You should see a fertility expert about your inability to conceive.

A: Vaginoplasty should not effect fertility

Otto Joseph Placik, MD

In and of itself the vaginoplasty should not have a direct effect on fertility unless there is such sufficient scarring as to prevent sperm reaching the ovum. You may want to discuss this with your gynecologist and or reproductive endocrinologist.

There are many reasons for a female not to get pregnant.  Vaginoplasty could potentially change the internal and anatomy of the vaginal vault (inside) but should not cause structrual and physical changes that could result in ability to concieve.  Some of the causes that are associated with the female and some with the male partner.  You first must be evaluated to see the reason you have not been successful is due to hormonal or actual physical factors.  Few of the reason could be decreased sperm count or decrease in quality of sperm in your partner, poor timing, depending on your age, decrease in quality of the eggs, medications, stress, .....  You should be evaluated by a gynecologist inorder to determine the reason or reasons for you problem.
