How to know if you're ready for Liposuction
Liposuction is a great motivator for people who diet and exercise but still can't make the change in the way they look or are at a plateau. Once you see the difference liposuction makes, then it is easier to maintain the areas looking good and you may feel more self confident as well. Since it is done under local tumescent technique anesthesia now , it is more safe than ever and easier to undergo.

Do not need to change lifestyle before liposuction
Liposuction will improve contour and eliminate bulges whether you have a healthy lifestyle or not. Of course, it's healthy to have a good diet, stable weight, and an exercise routine, but not just before you are having liposuction.

Make sure your weight is stable before undergoing liposuction
The best candidates for liposuction are height-weight proportionate prior to the surgery. This does not mean crash-dieting before surgery. Rather, it is far cheaper to lose the fat on your own than to have it removed by me.
It is not critical that you be at your ideal body weight prior to surgery. (Very few of us are.) But make sure that you're at a weight that you sincerely believe you can maintain on a long-term basis.
Remember: if you gain 20 lbs after surgery, it's got to go somewhere...

Lifestyle changes before liposuction
Liposuction is not for weight loss and it doesn't work with loose skin.
You should lose weight naturally to within 10-15 pounds of ideal for you. You should modify all negative lifestyles before surgery so you are ready to keep them up after.
Get used to proper diet and exercise as only those patients who maintain their preop weight or lose weight after liposuction will like their result. If you gain weight after liposuction, you won't think you got anything out of the procedure....

Being your best before liposuction
Hi there-
I am not much of a believer in the idea that you or any other patient is well served by dieting aggressively and exercising at a level they cannot maintain in order to see a number on a scale and proceed with a plastic surgery procedure.
I think that your best, safest, longest lasting outcome will come from having achieved a stable, healthy lifestyle prior to surgery...
When asked this question by my own patients, I always advise them to get out a piece of paper at home and write down

Liposuction and life changes
The most important thing to do prior to liposuction is to get to a weight that you are comfortable at before surgery. This is ideal. Try to maintain your weight as best as possible after surgery.

Lifestyle changes for liposuction
The moment you took the decision to have liposuction, you have taken the first step for a lifestyle change.
Good diet and excercise will prepare you to be healthy for the procedure and put you on the right tract for healing. After surgery, a health diet and exercise will make you maintain and even improve your results.

Lifestyle changes before liposuction
Your body weight should be as close as possible to your ideal weight prior to liposuction surgery. Your "problem areas" will be easier to identify and treat when you are at your ideal body weight. Liposuction works best on patients who are not significantly overweight and patients who have good skin tone. You will still need to diet and exercise properly to maintain your weight and results after surgery. Liposuction is merely an extension of a healthy lifestyle (diet,...

Lifestyle changes prior to undergoing liposuction
Ideally people should be close to their ideal body weight with a BMI in the range of 25.
However, that is not always the case. It is also important that a person be at a relatively stable weight for the preceeding 6 months to accomodate any changes in skin contraction.
Of course the other issues brought up by Dr. Nassif are also important and point to good general health including:
Smoking cessation
Discontinuing alcohol
Good diabetic control
Refraining from excessive sun...

One thing we want them to do is make sure their skin is prepared by using sunscreen, using topical products such as Retin-A or glycolic acids as well as having micro-dermabrasion.
Basically the goal is to get the skin ready for surgery and the better the elasticity before surgery, even if it is through the use of topical products or intense pulse-light treatments before the procedure, the better the result would be.
If our patient is a smoker, we want them to immediately stop smoking. We...
