What Does It Mean to Treat Acne with Blue or Red Light?

I don't get what it means to treat acne with "red light" or "blue light." Please describe blue/red light treatments. How do they compare? How do they work, and who is a good candidate for them?

Different Wavelengths

Let me explain wavelengths a bit. Call this Optic 001. The wavelengths we can see with our eyes are all in the visible light spectrum. There is a whole range of electromagnetic light we do not have the power to see. Our eyes are incapable of seeing radiation outside this visible specturm. Visible light corresponds to wavelengths in the 400-700 nanometer (nm) range, this corresponds to a color range of 400-700 with the 400 being equivalent to violet and the 700 being marked by red.... more
