How do you know if you have dermatitis and what kind of treatment options are there?

If you have red and/or scaly skin, you have dermatitis. Treatments of course depend on the specific diagnosis. Atopic dermatitis is an extremely common, itchy skin condition that responds to corticosteroid creams. If you happen to have a fungal infection called tinea that can look like atopic dermatitis, you would be making the fungal infection worse by applying steroid creams. If you are suffering from a dermatitis, I would encourage you to consult a dermatologist for an accurate diagnosis before treating or you risk making the condition worse or prolonging the time to diagnosis.
