Is It Possible to Wake Up During IV Sedation for Wisdom Teeth Extraction?

My dental phobic son finally mustered up his courage to get his 4 wisdom teeth out today. He had IV sedation and was promised he wouldn't remember a thing. He was awake during the whole procedure. He was like a mummy and couldn't move or talk. He moved his arm but the nurse moved it back. He heard horrific sounds of breaking teeth through his skull. The pain was unimaginable. The nurse said his heart rate stayed at 71. Very, very traumatic. How could this happen? More phobia.

Memory during sedation

IV sedation using drugs such as Versid renders the patient conscious but in deep sedation. The drugs follow a bell curve as to patient response. Most patients remember nothing. Some have vague dream like memories. Full awareness would be extremely rare.
