Could my Uterus Be Damaged During Abdominoplasty with Lyposuction?

I had abdominoplasty 9 days ago. Two of the three drains are draining dark red watery fluid. It looks a lot like blood to me. I also have started my period today - 9 days after surgery, which is not supposed to come for another two weeks. Could my internal organs be damaged during abdominoplasty with lyposuction? Could my uterus be punctured which is causing it to bleed? The doctor saw the drains today and said it is old blood that accumulated during surgery and is now draining out.

Blood in drains

Blook in your drains is normal even that far out from a TT especially when you're not used to seeing it.  A uterine puncture would we incredile rare, it's much more likely your anesthetic that can change your hormonal rhythm.

Complications after a tummy tuck

A tummy tuck is a safe and effective procedure to contour the abdomen, create a tight waist, and remove extra skin, fat, and stretch marks. During this procedure the plastic surgeon should always remain above the level of the fascia and muscles. No instruments, suture, or needles should go below this muscle layer. As the uterus is below the abdominal muscle layer, it should never be encountered with abdominoplasty. After a tummy tuck, patients should expect a significant recovery... more

Uterus could but is not likelly damaged during tummy tuck with liposuction

Althoug it is possible to damage your uterus during a tummy tuck with liposuction, it is highly unlikely.

Uterus damage during Tummy Tuck with Lipo

It is very unlikely to damage the uterus with tummy tuck or lipo.   The bladder actually lies on top of your uterus and would be more likely to be damaged first.    Unless you are urinated blood, I would not be concerned about the uterus.   The stress of surgery probably induced an early period response.    I agree with your surgeon that the dark fluid is retained blood or hematoma that is now draining out. I wish you  a safe and healthy recovery.... more

Tumm tuck and injuries

Having some drainage at a 9 days and maybe slightly blood tinged is possible. If you had intraperitoneal injuries, by 9 days you would probably be very sick.

Damaged Internal Organs After Tummy Tuck with Liposuction

Assuming that you wen to a qualified, Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon for your tummytuck with liposuction, it is exceedingly unlikely that any damage was done to your uterus or other internal organs.  Tummytucks and liposuction are performed in a plane that is well superficial to your internal organs.  They are well protected.  With respect to menstruating, it is common for surgery to change one's menstrual cycle.  The fluid coming out of the drain is most likely... more

Hormones and surgery

The stress of surgery can start or stop the natural cycle of your period.  This may be what is happening because the risk of puncturing the uterus with a TT and lipo in the hands of a real Board Certifed Plastic Surgeon is exceedingly small.

Uterine damage during lipo or Tummy Tuck

This would only happen if your doctor made a terrible mistake and went through the abdominal wall into the abdominal cavity.  This is an EXTREMELY rare complication in the hands of a board certified plastic surgeon.

Uterus Not Likely to be Injured in Tummy Tuck

Although you can never say never in medicine, it would be extremely unlikely to sustain a uterine injury during TT with or without lipo.  The bladder is situated between the uterus and your abdominal wall and would be more likely injured if there were a penetration of the abdomen (this in itself would be extremely unlikely).  I think your early menstrual period and the wound drainage are probably coincidental, although there could be a hormonal change as a reaction to the... more

The blood old blood but from uterus

If you had internal injury from liposuction, you would have been very sick. The blood is from bleeding during the abdominoplasty.
