I have a pretty bad anterior open bite from sucking my thumb. I also have a tongue thrust. My open bite is 10mm to be specific. I have trouble eating foods like pizza and salad and sandwiches. I have had 2 years of braces which did not shut the open bite at all. Since normal braces didn't work does that make the open bite skeletal not dental? Do I need jaw surgery? My orthodontist never mentioned jaw surgery before I only realised they did surgery to fix it when I researched open bites.

Since the entire lower jaw is longer on one side and shorter on the other, a lower jaw surgery would benefit you. It would not only align your chin, but would also correct the difference in length of the two sides
Looks like you are a two jaw casewith counterclockwise rotation and possible small genioplastyyou should get at least a 2D planningto predict some profile change
Without more detailed images including X-rays, one cannot advise you properly since sometimes you need extractions and other times it is not ideal. Consult a second opinion with full records if you are concerned.
