In my experience, using conservative amounts of Juvederm (i.e. 0.1 cc/tear trough) just above the level of the bone in a serial point technique works quite well for hollowing of the lower eyelids. It will not change your skin color, unless the darkness is related to the lighting/shadowing because of the hollow... more

As many patients/consumers are realizing, many times the areas of concern are better addressed by volume restoration versus pulling the skin and muscles tighter. Volume loss under the eye area (tear trough) is a common concern for both men and women. We prefer to use Restylane for these procedures because it is less likely to move away from the area shortly after it is placed. Tear trough correction with fillers is very technique-dependent, and I would highly recommend that you find a practitioner that has much experience with this procedure. Placing the product under the muscle is much more desirable than above it. Some people may observe less darkening under the eyes, but using a combination of modalities (lasers, topicals, fillers, etc) is usually the best recipe. Undergoing minimally invasive tear trough/hollowness correction to the under eye area is very rewarding for both patient and practitioner.

Juvederm or Restylane can restore volume loss under the eyes. This simple and almost painless procedure can make a huge difference. The tear trough or hollowing under the eyes, sometimes extending onto the cheek, is created by fat loss and herniation or sagging of the surrounding tissue. This hollow alone can create a shadowing effect that leads to dark circles under the eyes. The dark circles can also be caused by many superficial vessels in this area. The dark circles are best improved when caused by shadowing but can also alleviate those cause by superficial vessels. The filler lifts the area to the level of the surrounding skin and the results can be fantastic. An experienced injector that has been specifically trained in this procedure should perform this procedure.
