Hi, I have done my TT surgery with hernia as well on 10th july, it went well and I started walking, the wound started to heal, even though I have some pain when I walk very straight. Only one issue is there, my umbilicus is not really survivng, my surgeon said we will wait and see how it develops, it started to turn dark but not really black, is that normal, and is there anything I can do to let it survive faster? Everything else is just very well.

Belly button color after tummy tuck

Hello, It sounds like you may have something called venous congestion--a process where the venous return of blood from the belly button to the body is slowed down. This is in part a result of the muscle tightening and the tension placed in the surrouding area. As long as the blood flow into and out of the belly button is maintained--even though its slowed down--eventual healing should be fine. I would encourage you to stay hydrated, to not smoke or be around tobacco... more

Umbilicus

Sometimes the umbilicus may have problems in a Tummy tuck especially in those cases where there was an umbilical hernia repair and if the muscles were tightened a great deal. Since the umbilicus is in reality a scar , it should be left to heal on its own and should do well. It may appear different than before the surgery but this should not be a problem.

Tummy Tuck and Umbilicus?

Thank you for the question. Congratulations on having had the tummy tuck procedure. Problems with blood flow to the umbilicus can occur after tummy tuck surgery especially when there is an associated umbilical hernia repair. The only question remains how much compromise of blood flow there is and only time will tell exactly how the bellybutton heals. In the meantime, I was just you follow your plastic surgeons instructions and continue close follow-up. Best wishes. more

Don't assume the worst, it may heal well

While many women want to look younger, having the belly button of a newborn may not be exactly what you had in mind! But, it does happen on occasion following a tummy tuck and, as with a baby, it shrivels and shrinks, scabs up just a bit and eventually…looks just like a belly button. Every once in a while it still needs a little touch up revision down the road in the office but overall, you should do really well and I hate to say, maybe even better!!

Belly button trouble after a tummy tuck

Experienced plastic surgeons know how hard it is to get the belly button just right. If your overall result is good, then you should do very well after the scabbing and healing and eventual scarring. Ask yourself; would I rather have a scar all around a healthy non sloughed belly button, or a scared tiny belly button? Most would chose option two. A wide scar is a dead giveaway that you had a tummy tuck, while a small belly button looks normal, even if it is a hassle to deal with for a few... more

Umbilicus

It sounds as though the bloodflow to the umbilicus is marginal and the umbilicus will not survive. The umbilicus is really just a scar anyway and after this heals it probably will not be an issue and look just fine. Avoid smoking, stay hydrated and use good wound care.
