I know it won't help grow back lost hair and understand that it's not a heavy hitter like finasteride in battling hair loss, but I'm just wondering how helpful it might be? Am I correct in thinking that the ingredient ketoconazole works somewhat similarly to finasteride in that it is a DHT blocker? (though less effective and applied topically as opposed to taken orally). If so, could it also have some smaller likelihood of the side-effects associated with finasteride? (I'm not on finasteride.)

If you have a receding hair line and it is due to genetic balding, you cannot "stop" it. There are medications that may slow it down or stop it temporarily. There is also a hair transplant surgery option to "add" hair to the receding hair line.
Your doctor probably will not try to harm you. If you believe your treatment is not safe or do not trust your doctor, seek a second opinion from another doctor you trust. It is not clear what medical condition your are diagnosed with or what medication is "follihair".
