What Are The Different Types of Tummy Tuck? What Is Best For My Case After Massive Weight Loss?

I have heard the tummy tuck called extended, anchor cut, fleur de lis and full abdominalplasty. Can you explain the difference in these, when they are use and if there is a cost difference between them. Can any of them be used when having a lower body lift? I had open RNY bypass surgery six years ago and lost 150 lbs. I am now considering plastics to finish what I started. Tess

Congratulations on your significant weight loss; you should be very proud of this accomplishment. Many patients who have experienced significant weight loss are left with significant redundant skin on the face, extremities, and torso. The different varieties of tummy tuck

Yes, there are many types of tummy tuck. Yes, the tummy tuck can be incorporated with and is part of a circumferential lower body lift. This is yet another type of tummy tuck called the belt circumferential abdominoplasty where the scar goes all the way around, front and back. Sometime a vertical component can be added to the front, sometimes referred to as a fleur de lis. Giving it a name is not as important as picking the right procedure(s) for you to give you the right... more

Body Lift After Massive Weight Loss

Congratulations on achieving your 150 lb weight loss. The best solution for removing the left over excess skin is different for each person. A lower body lift gives more improvement than an abdominoplasty or extended abdominoplasty alone. You can see improvement in areas adjacent to the trunk, such as your back and thighs and groin. The fleur de lis approach is used primarily in people that already have a large midline upper abdominal incision. The cost is... more

Lower Body Lift Often Best Procedure After Massive Weight Loss

A regular tummy tuck does not address the excess skin in the flank areas, buttocks, lateral thighs, and back. Significant amounts of the excess skin in these areas can be removed, however, with a lower body lift. This procedure extends the tummy tuck incision circumferentially and is a much bigger operation and is more costly.

Abdominoplasty after massive weight loss

Various techniques in abdominal contouring are categorized by resulting pattern of scars, extent of dissection, or placement of tension. I prefer not to think within these categories since the categories are basically the organization of an infinite number of variations. These names should be the result of your planning, not the determinant of the surgery. That is, the surgery you will need to undergo is a product of the anatomy your have (i.e. intra-abdominal contents, muscle quality, skin... more

Different types of tummy tuck procedures

You are absolutely correct. There are many ways of performing a tummy tuck.
