Can Tummy Tuck Remove a Surgery Scar?

I have a vertical scar from approximately the top of my rib cage, down passed my navel just above my underwear line. It is an operation scar from a splenectomy and in my opinion it is hideous. Can a Tummy Tuck or any form of plastic surgery remove it or lessen its appearance?

SEE VIDEO BELOW BY CLICKING "MORE: A tummy tuck can remove some or all of the scars below the level of the belly button. However, there are methods to completely remove a scar from the rib cage down to the pubic bone. The scar can be revised but it cannot be eliminated. see video

Tummy Tuck to remove vertical midline surgery scar

The normal transverse Tummy Tuck scar will remove a large part of the LOWER aspect of your vertical scar. The extent would depend on how low the transverse scar is placed and on how much looseness and excess skin you have. In many cases, in women such as yourself, we can remove the segment from the belly button to the pubis AND lower the higher part of the scar further down on the belly. As part of this operation, your surgeon can revise the ugly top part of the scar which cannot be... more

Tummy tuck can remove some scars

Hello, Some scars can be removed in whole or part with tummy tuck surgery. Others make the tummy tuck surgery more perilous as the blood supply of the skin is affected. You need a good evaluation to have your scar and your tummy evaluated for possible surgery.

Tummy tuck and high abdominal midline scar

Hi, A tummy tuck can probably remove a portion of your scar, but not the entire thing. Obviously there is variability from patient-to-patient, but, in general, tummy tucks are effective in removing the scars from the belly button to the pubic region. Above that, it's hard to excise the remainder. Your best bet is an evaluation with a board-certified plastic surgeon. He or she can discuss the merits of scar revision versus tummy tuck or other body contouring surgery. Hope this helps. Best... more

Tummy Tucks can remove some midline scars

Yes, tummy tucks can remove some scars - please have a look at the patient in my video. In her case, she had a mid-line scar from the belly button down, and the whole scar was removed. In reality, a tummy tuck does not make a scar disappear, but rather you are trading the scar location from a mid-line one that you can see in swimwear, to a horizontal scar that is easier to hide. In your case, if the scar is above the belly button and goes up to the ribcage, it cannot be fully removed... more

Tummy Tucks and Abdominal Scars

Tummy Tuck can often remove previous abdominal scars. This is especially helpful for removing midline scars from the belly button down to the pubic area since a large quantity of skin is removed in this region. It will usually remove appendectomy scars as well. The scar you described is above the belly button, an it not only will not be removed, but makes it harder to do a tummy tuck since the scar will be a limiting factor in pulling the excess skin down. One can have a variation of a... more

Scar

Unfortunately, once you have a scar you have it for life.  If you are a candidate for tummy tuck you might be considered a candidate for revision of the midline scar to perhaps make it look a little better but tummy tuck will not remove a scar like the one you describe.
