Concerns about tummy tuck for stretch marks

I am considering getting a tummy tuck, My problem is not a loose skin or loose muscle but a severe case of stretch marks from hip to hip and aprox 2 inch above my belly button down to the upper part of the pubic area. My stomach is over all flat but do have loose skin I have a 10year daughter, I have low body fat, and I'm at my ideal weight. I just hate the unsightly stretch marks.Being that I am my ideal weight and dont have tooo tooo much skin to play with with I see good results? I am undergoing lipo in certain areas, perhaps this can loosen up more skin? I have seen before and after pictures but cannot seem to find pictures that I can relate too (stretch marks more than fat). What are your thoughts?

You look like a perfect candidate for a tummy tuck!  A tummy tuck does 3 main things: Remove excess abdominal skin Improve your profile view by pulling in the abdominal wall Improve you waistline by pulling the muscles toward the midline The amount of skin excess you are showing would lead me to think... more

A: Skin removal only way to remove stretch marks

Ralph R. Garramone, MD

The only way to reliably remove the stretch marks is to remove the skin containing the stretch marks. The only way to do this is with an abdominoplasty of one kind or another. The trade-off will be the presence of a lower abdominal scar which can be placed low on the abdomen and will in most cases be... more

A: Tummy Tuck Scar

Steven H. Williams, MD

Thanks for the question - Abdominoplasty is an effective way to remove stretch mark scars, tighten abdominal muscles, remove excess skin typical after weight loss or pregnancy and improve your abdominal contour. These benefits come at the cost of a scar. For full abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) there is a scar... more

A: A good tummy tuck should help you a lot.

George J. Beraka, MD

Of course you will have a scar, and not all the stretch marks can be removed. There are several different ways to do a tummy tuck. But I predict that with good technique, your stomach will be flatter and tighter and you will be happy. I have found that after a tummy tuck, even those stretch marks that cannot... more

A: Loose Skin and Stretch Marks or Scar? It's a Trade-Off

Athleo Louis Cambre, MD

A Tummy Tuck can do wonders to remove excess skin from pregnancy weight-gain, but it can't do everything. In exchange for a scar across the pubic area from hip to hip, most of the stretch marks and all of the loose skin below the belly button can be removed. However, unless there is severe laxity of the... more

A: you will probably not be happy unless you get a tummy tuck

James F. Boynton, MD

All of the changes you describe are typical changes that all women experience to varying degrees after childbirth. The rectus muscles ("6-pack" muscles of the abdomen) splay apart and the fascia stretches with pregnancy, and the skin of the abdomen will have stretch marks and some degree of looseness after... more

A: Tummy tuck should help with stretch marks

Bahram Ghaderi, MD

A tummy tuck should help your situation significantly. Typically, a football shaped area of skin from your belly button down to your pubic hair area will be removed. Therefore, any stretch marks at or below the belly button should be gone! If you have a lot of stretch marks (and from looking at the picture you... more

A: I sounds as if you are a perfect candidate for a tummy tuck

York Jay Yates, MD

It would appear that the skin from the pubis to about the umbilicus could be removed with a tummy tuck.  This would remove the majority of your stretch marks (aside from the ones above the top of the scar).  This of course is only an estimate based on the photo provided.  The trade-off is... more

A: Smart Lipo for post pregnancy baby fat

Christopher T. Chia, MD

SMART LIPO is an excellent tool for removing post pregnancy "baby fat" and tightening the skin. However, the following things need to be in place: You need to be at least 6 months post delivery due to the fact that your body changes during this time. The skin continues to shrink on it's own after... more

A: Benefits of a Tummy Tuck

Raffy Karamanoukian, MD

The benefits of a formal abdominoplasty / tummy tuck procedure are two-fold. The primary benefit is to remove infraumbilical fat and skin and the secondary benefit is to tighten the anterior abdominal wall and rectus fascia. In your particular case, a tummy tuck would remove central infraumbilical... more
