I had a tummy tuck in 2006 after vaginal delivery in 2004 and now two miscarriages in one year. Is this because of my tummy tuck? Is it possible that because of the surgery that the proper things cant take place for me to carry a baby past 5 wks?

Tummy tuck and abortions

My condolences on your difficulty with fertility but do not blame yourself or your tummy tuck. The tummy tuck is a very superficial operation in terms of your reproductive system. Seek out a fertility specialist and they'll not only tell you the same but will pursue helping you get to the identification of the true problem. Again, sorry to hear about your difficult time but keep your hopes up! Best Wishes, DoctorMeade

Tummy tuck and pregnancy

It is not likely that your tummy tuck is responsible for the two incidences of miscarriage. There are many other potential explanations for this, however, the tummy tuck generally does not interfere wtih pregnancy. I have had several patients who have successfully become pregnant after having tummy tucks with excellent outcomes.

Miscarriage following Tummy Tuck

I agree with Dr. Aldea that your previous tummy tuck was in no way responsible for your unfortunate subsequent miscarriages. You should consult with your obstetrcian to see if there is some other correctable reason for the miscarriages.

Miscarriage and Tummy Tucks.

Sorry to hear about your miscarriages BUT they have NOTHING to do with your tummy tuck. The operation strictly shapes the outside wall of the abdomen and does not get into it. As such it cannot interfere with the ovaries, tubes or the uterus. You and your OB should be looking for and exclude the more common reasons for repeated miscarriage. Dr. P. Aldea
