Post Plastic Surgery Remorse
Hi there-
As can sometimes happen after any other significant decision and event in life, period of time after undergoing surgery can be associated with feelings of guilt (over spending the money and complicating your family life) and remorse (it is difficult to see the benefit early after surgery- all you see are bruises, swelling, incisions, etc).
It is not at all uncommon for patients to say, "I'm not sure why I asked you to do this to me" at their first...

Post operative depression following cosmetic or plastic surgery procedures.
It is not unusual for any patient to experience an immediate post-operative high following a mild depression that sets in 2-3 weeks after surgery and has been likened to a mild post-partum depression. In my opinion, I attribute this to the natural and endogenous steroid high followed by the withdrawal as well as the metabolic demands of healing that are occuring during this period. It typically resolves and is realtively short-lived.

Depression?
I assume you are referring to a sad or blue feeling.
I have found that any uncomplicated cosmetic procedure may stress people and cause depression. This should be taken seriously, and treated as indicated. This is usually self limiting thankfully.

Depression after cosmetic surgery
It occasionally happens that patients have a let down or even some depression within the first 2 weeks of a cosmetic surgical procedure. "I chose to do this to myself?" is a common question especially during the pain and swelling phase. Generally this all resolves as the result you had wanted begins to appear and as the pain and swelling decreases.

However, a transient case of the blues is very common during the first week or so after any cosmetic surgery. It is normal and it passes, so it is helpful to be aware that it isn't something long-term.

Tummy Tuck does NOT cause Depression
It is fairly common for some people to have a short lasting emotional let-down after cosmetic surgery. After the great anticipation leading to surgery many look at their immediate post-op results, swelling, fresh scar, drains and discomfort and become justly disappointed.Without surgical experience and being able to see the long term results. This condition is VERY short lasting. As the recovery proceeds along many compare their Before pictures and see great improvement EVEN when compared...
